When this place opened back up I was excited to see its return. Then I walked in and the person who stated they were the manager and I talked about some board games. One would consider this a good visit, right? Well, during the talk I was made to feel lesser because I enjoyed certain board games that they did not. So I chalked it up to that the bad side of the whole former 2920 crew was the one who won out, and put it and the store at the back of my mind.
A few months later, I went to give them another try, they were closed when they were supposed to be open, no sign explaining why, just a locked door, and product on the shelf that I could see that I was actually coming for. Another company got my business that day.
Fast forward now to today. I have been on the search for a board game expansion that in the past I would order from the 2920 store and patiently wait. The local store I now frequent did not have the expansion, so I googled "Board Game Stores Houston" and up popped Gaming Goat. "Okay, they really are the closest to the house, I would love to see if they have it and give them one more shot to become my board game shop, so I don't have to drive to 249 or 59, I can stay in my neighborhood!" I thought to myself.
I called the phone number listed here, got the gaming goat "phone tree" and a hastily group of options was spewed at me. I couldn't figure out what I wanted to push so I pushed 0... during business hours. Got the voicemail of a person instead of the store. I then checked the reviews to see if someone said the hours on Google were off and saw a "Response from the owner" to someone a review stating that they made someone buy a product that was not opened that they could have simply wiped down with disinfecting wipes with a snide comment.
To be fair, I have given this place enough chances over the years and will just take my consistent board game budget to another store where I have always had great service and have them order it and I will wait, just like I was going to do with...
Read moreI came here with my wife about a week ago, we arrived exactly at opening, but I'm assuming the opening person was running late because it opened roughly 7 minutes late, which wasn't an issue really, but we were about to leave assuming it wasn't going to open until we saw someone unlocking the door. This store is very small compared to other hobby stores I have been to, but was very well organized. Without having been here before I was able to easily know where anything I'd be looking for would be (was there for d&d miniatures). We were greeted as we walked in and despite there only being one employee on this Monday morning I saw her engaging a couple that had walked in right before us and helping them find what they needed. She demonstrated some mats that are reusable for D&D. We got what we needed and she rang us up at the register. Right before we were leaving she asked if we knew anyone who liked pokemon. My wife answered with "we do" and she offered us pokemon stickers. We left having enjoyed our stay at the Gaming Goat and would probably return if it wasn't so far from us. I'd normally rate 4 stars for opening slightly late since we drove over an hour to get there, but I'm under the impression it could've been a rough morning. So overall I'd recommend...
Read moreHonestly the guy behind the desk was super knowledgeable about what he was selling, but was condescending and rude. We're new to collecting and we were just checking out game shops in the ares, so we went in, all seemed good he greeted us and was super friendly, asked what we were looking for and we told him Pokemon, he said "oh that's the one thing we don't sell," we said okay no worries, and then bought something anyway. This is where everything went down hill. After we paid, he proceeded to tell us about how Pokemon is a dying game, and a waste of money, and just kind of shit all over us for collecting because "what are you gonna do, open them, go oooh shiny, and then shove them in a binder and never look at them again. It's a waste of time and money" he then went on a relentless rant about how War Hammer was better because it's more cost effective, and he preferred it because it's just overall better than Pokemon. So like have to give credit where it's due, definitely knew what he was talking about, but you don't make sales or win people over by shitting all over their hobby's and saying yours are better. Will not...
