Unfriendly Overpriced Physically Painful Staff does not get along Did not get what I wanted

Absolutely terrible experience. Walked in to fighting amongst owner/manager and two barbers. Should've been my first clue to turn around and walk out the door but I really needed a cut. Manager (I think his name was Bob) asked either of them if they had any time before their next appointments (as I was a walk in); they both said no but he turned to one of them, Wes, and said "Wes, you can take him."
I didn't want to step on any toes so I suggested to Wes that I come back some other time but he said "No, we're good." Explained what I want and he asked a bunch of questions like "what do you do with the bangs" and "how do you wear it?" Questions that definitely should've clued him in more on what I wanted.
The cut itself was incredibly jerky and very painful. I felt like I was being treated like an annoying piece of meat. To be quite honest it was akin to physical abuse. At the end, he showed me the cut and I asked a question about the top, which was shorter than I had intended. He got offended and said "you got exactly what you asked for" and turned away. I then proceeded to tell him that I wasn't trying to tick him off, just to figure out the mistake I made. I also mentioned that I had noticed they were fighting when I walked in and that I should have known better. At some point during this exchange, the manager (Bob again) walked in, looked at me and the barber (presumably, on alarm at the sounds of discontent) and walked out, never to be seen again.
My barber warmed up a little bit and then admitted that if they hadn't been fighting when I had walked in, he probably would have caught on to what I really wanted during pre-cut counseling. To me, this is basically an admission of "I was pissed off at my boss so I took it out on the client." No apologies were made for the aggressive cutting.
This was an altogether horrific experience. In my opinion, the manager is as much at fault as the barber.
Will never go back and urge others to not make the same mistake of walking...
Read moreLennartz is more than a barber shop to me. It all started years ago when I first started coming for a haircut and a beard trim. At that point it was just about getting a haircut. Every time Marion would provide his service, he would ask me what he could do better, and what the barber shop could do better. He always wanted to know exactly how I felt about my experience and he has always made me feel that I deserved nothing but the best!
Eventually I began having my dad come with me. He would love to come see Bob for his haircut. They had so much in common, including playing the organ (which sometimes you will hear Bob play in the shop.) It reminded me of my childhood, to go with my dad to a REAL barber shop.
My dad passed away last week. I had to change my appointment twice because of the uncertainty of the planning of his services. Marion made sure he took care of me and scheduled me around the evolving schedule I was working with. He told me that he would make sure I would look my best for my dad's services.
When I got there for my appointment I let Bob know he had passed, and how much my dad enjoyed coming in, and how much it meant to me to share those moments with my dad again in his final years. Marion, again, as he ALWAYS does, provided me with EXACTLY what I wanted with my hair and beard. I like to get the full service occasionally as well, including a shave and a clay masque facial. I trust him for any service I need, and that will never change.
After these years, Marion still to this day asks me how the shop and himself can do better, and what they could do to improve my experience.
The answer has been, and again today, was NOTHING.
I feel like I am at home, and with family when I'm at Lennartz Barber shop. It's so much more than a barber shop to me. Thank you Marion, and thank you Bob. Appreciation is an...
Read moreAwesome shop! Great haircut and top notch service from Bob. My normal barber has limited hours and I couldn’t get in for over a week from when I checked, so I looked around for another local barber, intending to only get my hair cut this one time and then return to my normal barber after that. Well, my plan didn’t work out because Lennartz will now be my normal barber. Bob gave an excellent cut, despite my sketchy description of what I wanted. I showed him a poor quality internet picture of a similar cut and he went to work and it turned out even better than I hand hoped for. I’d been to all of the other local chains (Great Clips, Sport Clips, Bo Rics, Super Cuts, etc) and, at best, those places are all hit or miss, with the “hits” simply being an adequate to good cut, but almost never excellent. At worst, the chains are chop shops lol. Not only did Bob give an excellent haircut, the straight razor detailing, warm towel finish, and rinsing my hair after the cut were nice touches and show the attention to detail shown in this shop. Bob was friendly and carried on a good conversation during my cut. The shop itself is very clean and comfortable and very organized. I haven’t tried any of the other barbers in the shop yet, but I’m sure I will over time, as this will now be the only barber shop I use for me and my two sons. In this day and age, customer service and attention to detail seem to be dying arts, so it is refreshing to find a true old school shop like this where they treat you well, are masters of their craft, and make the entire experience relaxing and fun....
