Overall Experience: The Boro was busy. Most of the tables were taken and the staff was working the big parties. The Staff were not stressed; taking time to be pleasant and attentive to everyone. TV lined the walls; showing a wide variety of events, from speed hamster shaving to hydrofoil racing. Not too noisy. Just another sports bar environment. The food was pricey, ten plus for majority of items on the menu. Quality of food received was not aligned with the cost. Some things were good while others bad. I think inconsistency was more of an issue here.
Food I had during the 2/19/23 visit: Dip Trio Chimichanga, Verde style, with Mexican rice and refried beans
How was the food... Let's start with the Dip Trio (3/5) ... We selected Ranch, Queso Blanco, Chile con Queso ... It was okay. The queso was creamy and cheesy. Chorizo had lots of good spice and flavor. My least favorite was the ranch. It was served with ruffled potato chips.
Chimichanga, Verde style, with Mexican rice and refried beans I need to break this meal down into its different parts...
Main Dish) chimichanga pork carnitas Verde style. (4/5) This was good. The lime and cilantro went very well with the pork. Overall, texture of the deep fried tortilla was well done and crisp. And the portion was appropriate. If I come back I would get this again.
Side 1) Mexican Rice (1/5) overcooked white rice with no flavor with some reddish sauce
Side 2) Refried Beans (1/5) look closely at the picture in this review. The beans may have been cooked a third time on the plate. I was not able to eat them. Fun fact, I was able to pick up a piece and crumble it between my fingers. It was bad,...
Read moreWe generally never order food at Elsas knowing it usually is not worth the money spent. We do enjoy Elsas for the Bad Juan (who doesn’t?!).
The new Boro Cantina appears to be a fresh, modern, clean take on your neighborhood Elsas. Tons of TVs to watch almost every game on at the time of your visit. We visited at the height of the COVID pandemic and it appears that most staff took the required COVID precautions. Tables were also separated with plexiglass.
Since we were hungry, my partner and I ordered a side salad (3.50); I had the bone in wings since they’re hard to mess up. He had the boneless chicken chunks and waffle fries (again, hard to mess up). Food was hot and prepared correctly. We each had a few Bad Juan’s, which I wanted to note they tasted a bit off. They did their necessary job, but had a bit of a faux sugar aftertaste. I can easily look past this.
What irked me was the service. While our waiter was prompt, I felt he was a bit on the cold side. Thanks to the Bad Juan’s, I felt in the spending mood so I purchased two of the face mask/gaiter things for $20. I tipped 18% due to the service. I want to note that this Elsas charges a credit card fee. I’m sorry but this is a turn off for me. Why penalize the customer for paying the way they want to pay? Shouldn’t the establishment offer a good experience with great hospitality for fair pay? I’m sorry, but it’s 2021 folks. I’m not eating that fee... hence the 3 stars for the...
Read moreThe enchiladas were ok . Chips and salsa was good . Rice and beans were lacking. Went back for a return visit. Service was absolutely terrible. I waited 15 to 20 minutes just to get somebody to come over and take my order and I had to ask another server to get someone to come over, and they weren’t even that busy there was five of them just standing around talking and not doing anything! She never came back to my table asked if everything was OK never brought me another drink or anything. I do not recommend this place anymore. I even spoke with the manager. He didn’t offer to do anything to fix it didn’t offer a discount didn’t offer any kind of free dessert didn’t offer anything And I had to sit there and wait after I was done with my food for another 20 minutes and nobody came still so I went and asked for the manager overall terrible experience definitely...
