My favorite theater in Northern Virginia, hands down.
I don't see movies in theaters all that often simply because I never feel like the price of the ticket justifies the experience. However, Regal 12 is starting to change my mind.
Here's why:
Obviously, the reclining seats are a big factor in this. I know everyone talks about them but, seriously, if you haven't tried them out yet, you're missing out. Gone are the days where you're elbow to elbow with a stranger in a seat that makes aircraft seats look spacious. Now, you get to watch your movie on a spacious, leather recliner that electronically adjusts to your specific lumbar desires. It's awesome. Plus, these come at no additional ticket cost, which you would typically expect.
Here's a tip though, the seats come in two's, so there's still a chance that you'll end up reclining in the same "pod" as a stranger. It's okay, because you can both recline separately and there's enough room that you don't touch each other, but it's kind of a weirdly intimate moment laying down next to a person you don't know. SO, pick your seats early enough so that you get the couch to yourself or are with someone you know.
That brings me to the second reason I love this theater. AMC has started allowing customers to pick their seats before buying their tickets, which takes out all the hassle and stress of trying to rush into the theater and take your favorite seats by storm. Regal Kingstowne doesn't have this option, but Regal Springfield does, which is a nice bonus.
Finally, many theaters in the NoVA area are, quite simply, gross. Many of the seats carry old remnants of food, there's trash/popcorn on the floor, the bathrooms smell, the floors are sticky, trash bins are overflowing, etc. Not so with Regal Springfield. It may be because the theater is relatively new, but everything is kept very clean, which makes the experience more enjoyable and lets you think about enjoying the movie, not the 3 week old Milk Dud stuck on your arm rest.
My only drawback with this place is there movie selection. They don't always play the latest movies and I'm not sure why. I think it may be because they're trying to keep crowds down or some deal they have with Kingstowne, but you'll likely not be able to see any brand new movies until a week or two after they're released.
Regardless, I highly recommend this theater....
Read moreIf I could give this zero stars I would. So, the movie was great. But Regal only plays the movie, so they get no credit for that. This was my first visit to the movies since before the pandemic. Wow was I disappointed. A lot of businesses have used the pandemic period to make improvements or focus on value. Not Regal. The movie industry wants people to come back to the movies but they won't achieve that with facilities and service like this. Specifically: the lobby was filthy: sticky dirty floor that looked like it hadn't met a mop in months. Tables in the bar looked old and tired -- and all were dirty. There were few choices at the bar (not sure if that's a supple chain issue or bad bartending) it just didn't look welcoming. As usual, there were only four concession lines open -- in other words they moved glacially slowly. Only one line used cash as if we're stuck back in 2020 when we believed cash spread the virus. The menu has been chopped down and is much smaller. Regal has switched from Coca-Cola products to Pepsi products. There's no more coffee. The prices are, of course, sky high and higher: a large soda and a small candy was $13 after tax. The carpeting throughout the theater is as dirty as it was before the pandemic no one took the time to really turn on the lights and do a deep clean. The reclining seats are still comfortable but the leather is tattered (see the attached picture -- every seat looked like that). The sound is still awesome -- six stars for this theater's sound system, but the screens are old and still have some glare in the upper center. There was one bright spot and that was the employees. All of them were engaged and polite and thoughtful. Particularly Grayson at concessions and Aaron the ticket taker. They were awesome but the facility is in dire need of deep cleaning and a renovation and a thorough look at what it takes to welcome back guests. Here's my recommendation: if you HAVE to experience the movie on the big screen (for some reason the movie won't translate at home), fine, go. Otherwise, save your money for a good bottle of wine and some good takeout and don't go to Regal Springfield...
Read moreFirst let me states the positives of this theatre: The quality is great, seats are nice and comfy and its small and enjoyable
However, in my opinion the negatives seem to outweigh the positives. I am very choosy and specific when it comes to seeing movies and the venue in which I do so.
First, the price. It is extremely annoying; it wasn't at first but now its ridiculous. No matter what ticket you purchase, there is an extra surcharge for the reclining seats and I believe that price is about 2.50. Now that might not seem like much, but if you're on a tight budget, don't intend on bringing a date here and eating well because the price will come to around 45 dollars which you could easily use for something a bit better.
Second, the lights. They do not dim all the way so there is some excess lighting when you look up and its surprisingly bright. Now this isn't the worst thing ever, but to me it is definitely noticeable and frustrating.
Lastly, GETTING SEATS. My word, I love the idea of choosing your own seats but the problem with smaller theatres is that there aren't a ton of seats in the individual theatres, thus making it difficult- heck, dang near impossible, to purchase a ticket on the spot. The only way to catch a box-office film at one of these types of venues is to either go early and pick up tickets, or buy them online. The problem with this is that on some of the sites like fandango, there is also a surcharge or convenience fee for the purchase so again, the price will get you.
If you want a fun time with your friends or family, where budget is no issue, and you aren't too specific about minor flaws, and are willing to go early and snag tickets, then this is definitely the place to go.
However if you are like me and want to view a quality film in a dark environment for an average cost with no other outlying issues, I wouldn't highly...
