Called and spoke to a gentleman on the phone, explained that I had a large lot of consoles, games and peripherals to sell from my personal collection (all well maintained and highly valuable). Told the guy that I was only interested in selling the whole lot and he told me to bring it by. Spent the next 2 hours boxing everything up, brought it to the store and was promptly told that they would not, under any circumstances buy the whole lot and would only purchase individual titles.
One of the men proceeded to tell me that they were a retailer and don't just buy everyone's stuff without looking into what I brought in.
I have never seen such an unprofessional staff person at one of these stores. Literally turned away a lot that included 10 games (the first 10 I pulled from a single box) that are currently each retailing between 100-200 on amazon (in great condition with all manuals and extra stuff). Total lot included well over 150 games, rare peripherals, consoles, controllers etc. They could have easily gotten 2-3 grand for everything included and instead couldn't be bothered to discuss options.
I've gone here for years and had mixed experiences. A number of games I've purchased simply did not work or were otherwise damaged and needed proper buffing (something they claim to do in the store).
I hate to leave a bad review because I want to support local businesses but I've never heard of a used games store literally turning away thousands of dollars in product because they refuse to buy the whole lot (I was willing to let the whole lot go for like 500 bucks to avoid the hassle of selling independently but upon their suggestion I will have to go the independent route).
I encourage the owner, if you're reading this, to evaluate your staff and educate them in how to effectively bring in fresh, valuable stock, to your establishment. Your gamecube section would have looked a lot better with an extra 50+ valuable...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTLDR; Store is clean, good variety of product, however the employee customer interaction was not smooth and there were some basic hygiene issues.
The good; The store was decently stocked, there were games i don't see often, which is always a plus for me.
The appearance of the store is immaculate, very clean, and games displayed in a way that was easy to read the titles and view everything at a glance.
Trade in was simple, although they didn't take some items I brought in and they didn't elaborate why.
The bad; In the nicest possible way I can say this, there were a few staff members that could do with some personal hygiene upkeep, as someone that would be upset if nobody told me I appeared unkempt, please take that as constructive criticism.
Bulk handheld cartridge games are tossed into a tote, thankfully they are sorted by letter group (A-E, F-I, ect ect), but overall not that fun having to dig through those to find any titles I may be looking for. The solution I have observed across other similar businesses is keeping the games in a 3 ring binder with the clear card style inserts, that way they can be flipped through reletivly quickly and they dont damage one another jostling around in a bin.
As a customer I felt talked down to in some of the conversations I held with the 3-4 employees on staff the few times I was there. I understand not everyone is knowledgeable in the specifics of video games as a whole, still does not feel good to be spoken to in an overly explaining manner.
Initially when I found items I was interested in purchasing, I stood at the counter waiting for someone to acknowledge me and let me know it may be a moment. One employee was sitting right behind the counter and despite seeing me, still never said a word. Several employees were there behind the counter, it felt very awkward and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVideo Game Headquarters has never done me wrong. Iāve been to GameStop and some other video game shops throughout my life, and nothing compares to this shop. I am so lucky to have a place as great as Video Game Headquarters. Where do I even begin; they have a great display inside their store and a great supply of inventory. Anything Iāve ever needed for gaming, I found it here AND if they didnāt have it, I put myself on a waiting list for what I want. When Iām on the wait list, I donāt know how they get these games and consoles that Iām looking for, but more than 75% of the time, I get what Iām looking for within a matter of days to a month or two. I usually get most items on the earlier side of that as well. Gaming is a major part of my life and when I think of Gaming Paradise or Heaven on Earth, Video Game Headquarters is the Promised Land that comes to my mind. I wish I can do more than leave a good review for this place because this is my favorite video game store in my 27 years of living....
