Shelby Marie Luxury Fragrance Bar {Fragrance Making Experiences} — Local services in St. Louis

I recently booked a reservation here for July 13th. Fairly easy to book and to find the place. As I walked in on the day of my reservation, I was barely greeted by Shelby. Just a “ Did you have a reservation?” Of course I gave my name and the time of my reservation. She then proceeded to tell my guest and I we can take a look around and she’ll be right with us.

As we quickly glanced around the place, we found a spot and seated ourselves. We waited a good 5mins (not too long) as Shelby approached us and sat the oils on the table and walked away. She then came back with two glasses and poured us some wine. After that, my guest and I just sat quietly and talked amongst ourselves. As we noticed we had been sitting there for a good minute (10-15mins), no one came over to explain anything to us as I noticed Shelby was up at the front sitting down. A helper (or assistant not sure) came over. She asked did anyone come over and explain the rundown on how everything works. We proceeded to tell her no. The helper kindly explained everything to us and left us to finally get started with smelling and mixing the oils.

Now it’s time to pick which fragrance bottle we wanted. As we looked at all the options for the fragrance bottles, I turned around and asked if these were all the fragrance bottles to choose from. As I asked that question the helper was ready to come and help as opposed to Shelby who wanted me to come closer to the front desk to repeat the question I asked because she couldn’t hear. As I walked over to repeat the question, the question was answered in a very condescending tone. As she finished answering my question I was looking at the additional two bottles that were placed up at the front desk. In another condescending tone Shelby asked me if she answered my question.

My whole time up at the front desk getting my fragrance mixed was very awkward and I was ready to go. Comments and little conversation was had here and there but still awkward. While the fragrance mixing part is still in the process of being made, we were told we can go eat and our fragrances will be finished shortly. As we finished eating, handled our fragrances, we said goodbyes and then left.

My whole reason for coming here was because I love perfumes and I thought it would be so cool to create my own. My mom and her friends recently came here and had the best time ever! She told me how music was playing and how Shelby’s interactions with them were completely open and friendly. My mom hyped this place up for me to come and visit only to not have the best experience. I did not feel welcome and for the price I paid was not worth it. If I could get my money back I would because experiences are everything. I attended a get together here. At first I was so excited because I love when I say love I love fragrances. In the beginning the owner appeared to be nice. She appeared to be professional . But by the end all of that went out of the window. She is rude and very condescending. Where do I start? I had a hard time finding a fragrance that I like. During her presentation she said that she was very good at mixing smells and creating the perfect smell for you. When I approached her first she said go pick out your bottle. Ummmm why would I pick out a bottle when I don’t like any of the scents? I asked if she could help me. She then mixes a few scents I along with everyone in my group agreed that all of the scents she mixed for me smelled horrible. So she then says pick out only one scent that you like. I’m thinking if I’m paying for this and I’m the one who has to wear it shouldn’t I like my smell? I just said you know what I’m going to support a black business. I let my daughter pick a second scent and brought two bottles I was met with attitude. It seemed like she got mad at me for not liking any of the scents. I should have followed my first mind and not buy anything. Shelby called everyone over to take a pick while we were taking a pic my bag dropped and one of the bottles broke. This lady did nothing she offers me a paper towel and says oh I can’t give you a refund!!! First of all hun I would never ask for a refund. The least you could’ve done was offer a small container, a cup a something after I literally spent $90. with you. And that was just me every one in our party of about 15 spent money with you. I literally walked away empty handed. That’s bad business. Oh wait she did say oh the least I can do is have you buy another one and you can pay half. Ummm mame why would I pay more money when I just spent 90. And I was probably spent the least in my group. I’ve bought perfume that’s cost way more!!! And would have gladly spent more and recommended more people but at this point I would never patronize this business again. please I say please do not patronize this business. Worst...

My bff wanted to go here so I took my daughter along with us. We got there at 12pm because on her website says open Sunday 12-5pm, the door was locked so i called her and she says walk ins are open from 2pm. We left and came back at 3pm When we got there we was asked if we had a reservation which we didn’t but were told to sit at a table. Loved her story but we was never told about the walk in fees of $30/person when on her website says something different and it was not $30 dollars on top of that she didn’t tell us about the smaller size perfumes she had but she directed us to her most expensive ones on the shelves, she could of showed us or let us know about the smaller size perfumes in case we don’t like it since it’s our very first time, then when we come back if we liked it and get a bigger size bottle. When we got done after sitting there for over 2hours of waiting my bill for me and my 13 yr old daughter came out to nearly $200 bucks Not alone we thought the name we picked for our perfumes was going to be on the bottles and that was not the case it was written on the gift bag🤦🏽‍♀️😞. For our experience her story was nice but for the price wasn’t worth it to me especially it’s our first time there. Maybe she should inform people that never been there before of her smaller size perfumes and her prices on it in case people don’t have that amount of money with them, or for those who just walked in to see. Then we all had major headaches when we left because of the fumes even though she had coffee beans that still didn’t help. Maybe open the windows or use some sort of fan to push that fume outside. Please do your research before you go and ask plenty of questions when calling in about her prices and smaller travel size bottles if you...
