I have mixed feelings about this place. I wanted to try it out because I have heard so much about how kickboxing is such a great work out. A friend and I decided to purchase groupons and give it a try. Our first class was with a guy name Anthony. He does the boxing class in the evening. My friend and I were 2 of 4 girls in the class, but I think the majority of the class is boys from ages 15-20. The class was fun. Anthony delivers a very hard workout, but I think this class is more for people interested in learning how to become actual boxers, instead of those wanting to do it for fitness. However, you will get a great workout in as well. I like it. Next, I tried an evening class with a trainer named Rodell. I enjoyed it a lot also. Very good workout, good muisic, and more of the style my friend and I were looking for. However, I was a little weirded out by the Takwondo instructor, Mr. Sexton. He continously would come over and disturb people as they were working out. He just comes off a bit creapy to me. Then, we decided to try a Saturday class. We took two classes that day. One instructor was David, who is also the owner of the gym. I was a bit surprised that he delivered a good class because he certainly doesn't look the part of a trainer. He is overweight and he hobbled around the gym like he had leg issues. Though his class was good, I'm just not sure I can put my health in the hands of someone who obviously cares little about their own. The other instructor was Danny. He had an okay class. A bit boring and slow. However, he and some lady in the class kind of got into a dispute and she left. There is another guy name Ron who is a trainer there. Ron is very knowledgable when it comes to fitness. However, you can't ask Ron a simple question an expect a simple answer. He will go on and on, almost in an attempt to show you how much he knows. To call him arrognant would be an understatment. As for the gym itself, it doesn't seem like its taking care of very well. Equipment is pretty old and worn down. There is no water fountain available, but there is a snack machine with soda and chips. Hmmm?... Over all there are better options out there. On Manchester alone you have Planet Fitness, Golds Gym in Manchester and Ellsville, Anytime Fitness, and I hear a Title Boxing Club is going in right down the street. I would look at these options before you come...
Read moreWent here on a lark when we had a girl's reunion trip and rented a house nearby. One of the girls saw this in the strip mall and I had a lot of attitude about it before we took our first class because of the location. I was WAY wrong. It was awesome. We did a group kick boxing class and our instructor was lovely (I forget her name, sadly) and we had a really fun time. The music was great and Jim (owner) helped us wrap our wrists. I came back the next day and asked if I could do the 7 day pass, retroactively. He said, "absolutely" and made that happen for me. I was really floored at his generosity and awareness. He's a small business owner and could have been strict about that, but was kind, instead knowing we didn't live in the area. Also, he didn't ask me to write this review, I asked on my last day if Google reviews help him and he said, "Yes, they help a lot. Thank you." The facilities are stacked with what you need and the instructors (I took from 3 different ones) were all knowledgable and cared about form/fitness. It was a pleasure. Also, the owner has 2 boxer dogs that are ADORABLE and give you kisses when you're sweating. So, if you don't like kisses and cuddles from fur babies - you are not a well person and this isn't the gym for you! Whenever I come back to STL, I'll for sure stop in for a class. Support...
Read moreEditing to say that I LOVE the Boxing Gym. I've been going to The Boxing Gym since 2017. The variety of classes and instructors, at different times of day, means I can get the workout I need even when I have a busy schedule. Each instructor has different music and a different style so I can change it up anytime! The bootcamps are especially challenging, and I love that I can modify them however I need if my knees are sore that day. They’ve added a lot of weightlifting and cardio classes without boxing, including on Sundays. The instructors have all been around for YEARS so it feels like a family welcoming me whenever I go. I switch around between classes with Stephanie, Jim, or Trent, and I recently went to a class with Karen and had a great workout! The owner Jim has two adorable dogs who hang out all the time, and they love getting pet. They’re literally the sweetest most gentle pups, so it’s so relaxing to visit the gym. It's conveniently located next to Schnucks so I often go to the store afterward. I LOVE this gym and the instructors, and they keep people coming...
