Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience at this shop. As we were browsing, we could hear the employee at the register loudly talking and laughing with two other women. The women had stacks of books that were unpriced and the three of them were chatting and laughing as the employee looked up the prices. My son and I waited in line as this continued. The employee never acknowledged us, but kept talking to them. I went over to the other worker who told me I could not be checked out with her, and she tried to get the attention of her coworker to no avail. My son really wanted the book so we continued to stand and wait. This went on until we put down the book and left. Horrible customer service. She never even spoke to me. She could have said she was sorry it was taking so long, or anything at all, but she was too caught up with conversation with the other customers. I guarantee if you are in a rush, have a special request, concern, or situation, need something set aside, or ANYTHING-if you voice that respectfully the owners will work with you. This is their bread and butter, they certainly would not intentionally try to burn you. It is important to not intentionally ascribe malice or carelessness when your needs are not immediately met.
I think many fail to understand the pressures small local booksellers are under, whether searching for employment or service. Bliss is creative in the ways they remain viable to serve the Stillwater community.
