Love the food at Hatch! We have come here a few times since its opening in Stillwater. While we do love the location, food, and atmosphere, we did have an unfortunately bad experience the last time we visited there. I want to preface by saying, I frankly, NEVER give negative reviews- you may look at my other Google reviews for reference. Yet, I digress... We took our four kiddos and my aging parents to the restaurant, got on the list, and in no time we were seated. I noticed there was space inside the restaurant, but we were led to an outside table, which was fine, as it wasn't necessarily "bad" weather, but a bit warm with smaller kids. However, we quickly realized that they placed us at a less-than-desirable table that had the sun directly beating down and in one of the only places on the patio area that had virtually no cover whatsoever from that. With three younger kids and a toddler, we were definitely in a tough spot, but we didn't want to try and re-situate the table as a walkout door was right beside us and that would have caused an issue. On top of that, our food took a very long time to come out, I'd clock it as close to 40 minutes of wait or longer, which is not at all the experience we have had previously there, and it was getting tough as the kids were very hot, adults were quite literally sweating, and no food in site. We did ask, when our server returned to check-in, about maybe moving tables to an open spot, but the server left and then basically only came back to put our food in front of us and never addressed the issue further or tried to help at all. Not to mention, in that time of not returning to check on us we had no drink refills and it was HOT by that point. It was just so odd, as if once we asked (quite politely I might add) they just ignored us in hopes we wouldn't say anything else. Unfortunately, it was a pretty miserable experience from a service standpoint and the odd way of avoiding the issue by the staff was extremely off-putting. While I am an advocate for "everyone has their bad moments" and to give grace, the fact that they knew we were struggling with the heat due to the location and being avoidant instead of helpful is a choice. I even considered if it was because we had several kids with us that they didn't want to seat us inside, but my kids are used to a restaurant setting and gave no red flags to staff that they wouldn't be able to handle the atmosphere- just weird! Plus paired with the fact that we have had a handful of great experiences there, it just didn't equate to me. We have several breakfast/brunch places we love in Stillwater and this was one of them, but this was such a strange experience. I am not saying I wouldn't recommend this place, I am just doing this review so that hopefully this doesn't...
Read moreParty of 4 this past Sunday went to Hatch for my birthday. We had a signed up ahead of time as we knew there would be a wait. Our friends had eaten at a Hatch before and were excited to eat at one again. The waiter picked up it was my birthday and brought our a pancake which was iced and had a candle. That was very sweet and delish.
I could at this point go over each point, but I am going to boil this down. The food was great after it was fixed. 3 out of the 4 orders were wrong. 2 of them were just taking off what they didn't want on their sandwiches. I had heard the chicken fried steak was great so that's what I ordered. I can't stand cream gravy. One it's a milk thing I deal with but really, I just don't like it. So I had them put it on the side for the table to dip their hash brown things in.
The plate comes out covered in gravy. I politely ask that it be fixed again. Also, to not scrape it off and re-fry it. That makes it fall apart, swims in grease, and still doesn't fix the plate was still covered in gravy. I was promised that never happens there and they would make it right. They did exactly what they said they wouldn't do. Even my table looked at the plate and said gross. I flipped over the steak and nothing but a greasy, gravy mess.
My question is why? That took more effort that just fixing it the right way. Manager came over, politely went over what happened, and it was remade, 15 minutes later after my whole party had finished. During this time the waitress kept asking if everything was alright as the others were having to correct their food that was messed up. All in all, the food that was edible was fantastic. Most of the waitstaff and workers were pleasant. The atmosphere is good and I'm glad they are in Stillwater. My issues lie with the management, staff training, and overall guest recovery.
We will return, but may have to sit back and wait to see if they can get their kinks out. As a side note, when you have a customer that has an issue with a product, approach it as how can we fix this and not come to the table as say "what is your problem". 3 out of the 6 different employees we had from the time we entered to when we left all asked at one point, what is your problem. That's a teaching moment. Guests don't have problems however the it's up to the establishment to assist with a concern over a product that a person...
Read moreI wanted to give this place 5 stars but unfortunately due to a couple glitches with gluten I cannot.
I will start by saying that they have fantastic customer service here. Everyone from the hosts up front, the servers, the managers and the bartenders are all friendly and go out of their way to make sure you like your food and your experience.
I've had a solo experience where everyone took extra good care of me. I've had a large group of twelve experience where they had us served in under an hour. I've had a couple group experiences that took an average time and still the staff was nice and friendly.
The menu has all sorts of options that are different and elevated from the typical breakfast/lunch menu. For instance, I never knew grits could taste so amazingly good or that oatmeal could be extra appealing. Everything I have tasted so far has been good and everything I have looked at on friends plates also looks amazingly good.
Now they do offer gluten free items but getting them to be actually gluten free has not yet been an experience. I have had two experiences with friends who cannot have gluten. The first experience they went out of the way to assure the pancakes were gluten free adn prepared in separate dishes but gave us a regular very glutenny hamburger bun. Even when we ask if they were sure it was gluten free because the bun looked way to delicious.
If you have ever tried gluten free you will know that it is no where near as tasty as gluten and it has a different look. The second time we ordered the same thing. The bun was most definitely different. It was some sad looking slices of bread that were dense and very believable to be gluten free. The pancakes were marked with a toothpick to indicate gluten free also. My friend was feeling the symptoms within 30 minutes of eating the meal and it lasted for 4 days after.
I am fortunate enough to not be gluten sensitive in this way, but I have witnessed my friend go through this and it looks painful. While Hatch does offer gluten free options, if you are in the category of people who are sensitive or allergic I would recommend getting items that don't contain any gluten whatsoever. Also note that their delicious hashbrown tumblers do...
