Our 20 year-old GARMIN chartplotter needed replacing as updated charts were not available. In addition to the unit not being serviceable by GARMIN, the screen was too small for use underway.
Tim at Dockside recommended the new SIMRAD NSS4 unit as it would give me a much larger screen, access to the latest C-MAP charts and included a knob in addition to the touchscreen for scrolling, zooming in and out, etc. As a long time GARMIN user (boats, cars, motorcycles) I was reluctant to switch, I was afraid I would miss GARMIN’s intuitive nature and screens.
After reading online SIMRAD reviews from commercial users (e.g. The Hull Truth blog) I went with the SIMRAD unit and couldn’t be happier! I was so impressed with the chartplotter I upgraded my Furuno radar to SIMRAD’s Halo4 unit and my older SIMRAD autopilot to SIMRAD’s AP48.
The Dockside tech did a great job physically and electronically integrating the new units into our boat. He took his time to ensure everything was working correctly and patiently explained the features while doing a sea trial. After he left the boat each day he left everything clean and orderly, not something I can say about others who have worked on our boat!
Once again Dockside came through, they have bailed me out of failed Raymarine radars and autopilots. I have recommended Tim and his team to friends as I’m very confident in their recommendations and...
Read moreI contacted Tim to do our underwater lights, fix the stereo, and rocker panel switches. He and his team came out the same week to troubleshoot each issue and then he called me to discuss what was wrong and provided an estimated cost to fix each of the problems.
Everything was fixed the following week in a timely manner. The work was first class and met my expectations which are high as the boat is in superb condition. No woodwork or vinyl was damaged in the process. The team was very careful. I’ve used dockside before and Tim is always very professional, communicates well, and does high quality work. I highly recommend Dockside for any electrical...
Read moreUnfortunately, I would not recommend Dockside. I reached out to have them troubleshoot my Raytheon Quantum 2 radar. In every interaction (call, email, etc), the vibe was that I was an inconvenience to them. Voicemail's are not returned. Estimates or quotes were not given. I needed to call several times to ensure I was still on their wait-list. They did not troubleshoot my radar. Just replaced with a new radar (which I could have done) with no reason given to what exactly failed. I do not like writing a bad review, but decided to after my experience was corroborated with other...
