So Labor day Saturday was National Cinema day. Movie tickets and some refreshments were $3 at theaters.
I thought it might be fun to go see movies in multiple theaters this day since the gas money would be made up from the savings at the theaters. So we started in Charleston, WV and watched movies at theaters in Nitro, Teays Valley and Barboursville, WV. I felt like this would be a good chance to try out theaters that we had never visited.
The Teays Valley Cinemas was actually my least favorite of the 3 theaters we visited. Howvever, I will admit, this theater was the cheapest on refreshments of any we used this day.
I loved that they made the offer of a cup of water for less vs. a bottled water. First, because most places/theaters that try to push bottled water on you usually only have Disante brand (which I'm not a fan of) and second, I do prefer ice in my drinks. So for that offer, they win big points with me. Also, I noticed they have pretty good refreshment choices, including pizza, I don't see that everywhere.
Their theater seating is where they lost me. The seats only recline slightly and you have to work to hold yourself in that slightly reclined spot. The seats naturally force you in an upright, 90 degree seating position. I've sat in airline seats that were more comfortable honestly. I will give them a little credit and say that the seating row-wise was well thought out, since it's so steep, no matter how tall someone in front of you might be, you still wouldn't have any trouble seeing over them. And if you were trying to keep an eye on kids sitting down below you, it wouldn't be difficult.
For $3 a ticket, I can't complain too much. And for all I know, maybe all of their seats aren't so uncomfortable, I was only in 1 theater. It was a good way to kill a day, I did enjoy the movie enough, so I wasn't completely...
Read moreI called ahead to get pricing for a 4:30 3D movie only to get sticker shock once there. I was quoted the matinee price but matinee ends at 4:00 evidently.
Once I entered the theatre I was surprised at all the popcorn cluttering the floors but no biggie... it's just popcorn. The theatre was large and seating made for a great view of the screen. I pointed out the cute curtained walls to my kids. I liked the colors and overall look and design. I sat down and my foot kept slipping every time I tried to set it down. Once we were settled I looked at my foot to find it covered in something.
I immediately went to the manager who said I was only quoted the wrong price because the person probably didn't know there was a price difference between regular and 3D. Uh... if your working at a theatre I would imagine that this would be kinda important to know.
As for the stuff on my shoe he said they clean each time and asked a girl if she had cleaned and and she said yes and he asked her to go check. He looked at me and said sorry and walked away.
By the time I made it back to the theater there were two ladies in the theater cleaning. I sat in a different row than before to avoid this stuff on my shoe. After they left I took a picture of the stuff still left on the floor. It is at this time I figured it out to be a huge pile of nacho cheese.
The pre-movie screen did not work and only had sound. This and the lights not dimming to off may be normal for them but not my experience at any other theatre. I like a dark theatre not one where you see the walls, ceiling, and other patrons.
I loved the movie. Sing. A great movie. I give this theatre 2 stars instead of 1 simply because the lady who got our refreshments was not rude.
A really bad $50 experience for 3 afternoon movie seats and 1 popcorn...
Read moreLast week was my first time going to this theater. It was recommend to me for the Tight wad Tuesday prices. I went to see" The Promise" They were selling the tickets inside, I was running behind as usual and when I went in the guy was having a problem with the register switching over to the correct price. There was a little wait for that problem to get corrected, but no longer than about 6-7 minutes. I got the Tight wad Tuesday medium buttered popcorn for $2.50 pluss tax, I asked for extra butter. Would have liked more than was put on it but how do you know if it's enough before you eat it lol. The theater was comfortable, appeared clean to me. The movie started coming on as soon as my bottom hit the seat, so even the short delay from getting my ticket it worked out fine. THEN.......one of my biggest pet peeves, I found it necessary to change my seat after the movie got started because these two ladies sitting behind me kept chatting back and forth, I tried to over look it and concentrate on the movie but they didn't stop. I MOVED .... got settled and got back into my movie........I will be going back on a Tuesdays when there is something I want to see ! I got the movie and the popcorn for the same price I would pay at Great Escape with NO popcorn. The reason for the three stars, I couldn't give perfect because of the delay in getting my ticket. I don't place , for the chatting ladies on the theater. When I go back, if there are no delays other than a line, I would change my rating to four stars........ALWAYS ROOM FOR...
