Do not sign here if you can help it. There is so much wrong with Alight.
First, during my lease they breached Arizona renter's rights by failing to provide notice of entry, which is required by law. This is a large company that will try to overwhelm you with as many fees as they can but they don't seem to care about following any rules themselves.
During my last year at Alight I had 5 different random roommates move through the apartment, none of whom were anything like what I put on my initial form for roommate matching. It is completely random and they do not care what you want. They treat it like a hotel where they try to fill as many rooms as possible even if it means your home is a revolving door. They tried to move a 6th random person into my apartment after two people moved out about a month before my lease was over. The same day they told me they were trying to move them in was the day the breached renter's rights by showing up unannounced to inspect the available rooms to facilitate them. I talked to management through several emails and phone calls about moving them in as well as the breach of rights (which they did not apologize for) and instead asked me to communicate with the new tenant to see if they would be a "good fit". After texting the new tenant and receiving inappropriate and uncomfortable messages that I then relayed to the manager I was corresponding with at Alight, I was finally able to convince Alight not to move them in. Apparently this tenant already had problems with previous roommates and they were requesting a transfer.
When I moved out, they charged me for a "missing chair" that my apartment did not include to begin with. They charged me for trash (at a rate of $35 per bag) left in the apartment for what I can only imagine was a painting that WAS included with the apartment that I had to lean against the couch because it wouldn't stay attached to the wall. They charged me to replace the carpet in my room due to "pet damage". Though I do own a cat, the carpet was not damaged when I moved out, and certainly not by a cat that weighs around 10 pounds and barely spends time in the room. Other roommates and people I know staying at Alight also reported having been charged for carpet replacement when there was no damage to the carpets. The carpet and chair fees alone were for about $350. They will try to fine you for anything they possibly can, so take pictures of everything at the beginning of your lease and at the end so they can't charge you, because they will try to.
The facility itself is in constant disrepair. Lights and elevator parts smashed, trash and broken glass everywhere (especially in the stairwells), the entire place reeks of rotting garbage and pet waste. The hallways are exposed to the outdoors so during the summer when it's hot, the smell is so bad it can be genuinely nauseating. Everything is covered in grime and things are rarely cleaned. The one time I have seen them pressure wash the dirt off the halls in my 2 years was only because of the amount of complaints they received. The trash collection services will refuse to pick up your bags if they deem them oversized which is seemingly entirely arbitrary. I have had bags weighing 10 pounds and not even full be marked as such. If the trash collectors don't feel like doing their job, sometimes they won't.
The rooms are not clean at move-in either. Moving in, things were dirty. Everyone I have talked to at Alight has reported the same thing. Bathrooms are dirty and some have black mold growing. After charging so much for cleaning fees they should at least actually clean the apartments, apparently they don't. Many appliances are dated and barely functional. Maintenance is hit-or-miss. Do not let the tour room and the leasing offices fool you, they are not representative of the actual rooms at all.
Google limits how much I can put in a review, but I could keep going on and on. Please do not sign here for your own sake, Alight will try to extract every dollar from you that they can with no regard for you or...
Read moreWould give 0 stars if I could. You get what you pay for. Amentities not well maintained, pool area bare for around a month because they weren’t replacing broken pool chairs. Fire pits are nonunctional, when in use last year we turned one off and there was fire spewing out of a leaking gas line under the fire pit. Since then they have been non functioning and management has not provided any information about a possibility of them getting fixed. The tvs, pool, ping pong and foosball tables are cool in the clubhouse, but unless you buy your own paddles/balls/cues you can’t use them outside of leasing office hours, and you better hope they don’t leave early because they take your ID to borrow equipment.
Guest parking is BS, charged $5 for “up to 24 hours” which is rounded to the next hour and off by an hour because the company clock is based on another tzone, so its usually 22 hours. they make you select a time to stay until, so if you pay at 9pm and choose 8 am but accidentally sleep in until 10, you will wake up to a towed car despite paying for 24 hours. Each year the guest parking rate also goes up. $5 a day for parking at your own apartment on top of the now increased monthly parking fee is ridiculous. There is no lack of parking. My ex got towed last year despite paying for the parking due to there awful system. we flagged the tow truck driver down and asked if he had towed the car and it took me ready to call the cops and my ex having to call me down for him to even tell me if he had towed the vehicle because she paid we didn't know what happened and were worried it was stolen. See pictures for more info.
Parents, if you care about your children read this. Alight management does NOT do a good job vetting their future residents. When a new resident moved into my 3b, the resident had not yet paid his security deposit or first months rent. I say this because posted on our door was an eviction hearing notice, Later I went onto the court website and it if I read it right, the amounts he owed resembled 1) a security deposit, 2)first months rent 3) second months rent 4) a bunch of fees. This roommate had 3 other individuals living with him, they were loud, coming back at 5 am with 20 people partying, they stole food, laundry, and dishes. They left our apartment trashed on a regular basis, and i had to call security on them for loud sex. Every conversation with security resulted in them not wanting to do their job, and the leasing office would continually tell me that they will call the cops and get the other non roommate individuals trespassed if they are there without our roommate. They refused and insisted I call, which its against housing policy for that to happen, and I didn't want to call the cops because I didn't know if they were actually breaking any rules besides making my life hell. The last night of these hooligans living there, I was chased and harassed by one of them drunk while on the phone with security, they finally came and kicked them out, then the next day the roommate kicked our door in, I didn't know it was him and had to call tempe pd who came and arrested him and his friend for having warrants. A few days later my old roommate texted me and asked "is this one of the guys", they signed a new lease and managed to move into another apartment at this complex and make their lives hell for a month. This apartment, as well as redpoint, and university house are all owned by Scion property management.
If you love your children, I would recommend staying clear of these properties if you want them to have any resemblance of a peaceful, decent college living experience. They suck, and some of the leasing office staff, particularly the lady who did our inspection was really rude and not sensitive to matters that were going on, typical landlord asshole.
I ran out of characters and could have doubled this review length so see photos for more info and lovely stories. before the property manager comments to call them or email. You have my name, its my profile and can find my number or...
Read moreNote; Alight is lying in their response below! They never sent pest control, I did report the missing extinguisher to manager Yillian. They had to move me apartments because I had to threaten possible litigation against them. Management/front workers take 0 responsibility for their actions. If you’re going to live here, HAVE AN ATTORNEY ON STANDBY. Make note of management/workers names. You'll need it. Seriously, you need to DOCUMENT everything. Living here was nothing short of horrible for two years. Apartment I first moved into was soon a nightmare with how thin the walls and ceilings are at Alight. Ant infestation as well upon move in, reported, Alight DID nothing. They DO NOT resolve issues. Ignore their responses to other 1star. reviews. You will hear anything and everything INSIDE and OUTSIDE. If you’re not on the top floor, good luck. If you request to be on the top floor after reading this, just know they added on a “top floor fee” for $15 a month extra. This fee was not a thing until this new lease year. The reason I had to move to the top floor was the fact that my legal renter right of a “peaceful environment” was being violated and man, was Alight sure to take their sweet time resolving this issue. After I moved into the top floor, I come to find there’s no fire extinguisher NOR trash can! Guess what residents pay for? Valet trash service and safety. If you do not have a fire extinguisher in your apartment please call the local Tempe fire department and report Alight and name their managers by name. The trash can Alight gave me had mold in it and trash in it. How is that acceptable? Furthermore, the room I moved into, had BLACK HAIR ALL OVER THE PLACE. A violation of the “right to a clean environment”. I think my favorite was the chewed and spit out gum on my carpet from the prior resident that Alight, I’m sure charged the prior person for, and THEN NEVER FIXED IT. They are likely scamming people this way. Their financial department is run by someone who would somehow “mistakenly” double charge my roommate for parking, definitely seeming to hope she just would not notice. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CHARGES. These people charged me in March for damaged blinds, and then never replaced them! Guess what they did two days before July move out? REPLACED THEM FREE OF CHARGE. All I had to do was make a maintenance request. Please know you can take apartment complexes to small claims for deplorable tactics like this. Their worker, miss Isabella herself, told me that they were no longer doing walkthroughs because they were short staffed. (This is managements fault and NOT an excuse to do walkthroughs. They lose any credibility they have.) The elevators constantly had puddles of dog piss in them, trash, and broken glass. Trash every day in the parking garage yet they want to charge people an extra $10 this year for parking for what? More trash to be in the parking garage? This place is NOT worth your dollar. They will also scare tactic you into resigning. At this point, holding Alight accountable isn’t about money, it’s about their lack of morals, and trust me they will show you they have 0. The only thing they have to offer is a decent pool and gym. I can assure you this doesn’t mean jack in the long run. Their internet is not fast, I have a plethora of evidence of me having to constantly contact their internet provider because it would disconnect every five minutes. At this point, this is Alight’s problem. Choosing to utilize an internet company that IS POORLY RATED on Google is absolutely your fault. When you complain to them about wifi, they will shift blame to Pavlov Media. Trust me, Alight is at fault here for CHOOSING to utilize them. Also, please report to corporate (The Scion Group) that Alight’s managers literally let someone move in with feces smeared on the wall. Their save face response doesn’t work, we all know that’s literally Alight in the photos. I’m reporting it, and you should too! Saying “we can’t find you in our system” to people who are clearly posting photos inside...
