My daughter-in-law and I visited Boot Barn in Temple, Texas, and from the moment we walked in, we felt so welcomed. Barney, who was behind the counter, greeted us warmly and let us know he was there if we needed anything.
We headed straight to the hat section, trying on different styles as we prepared for an upcoming rodeo. When I put one on, I wasn’t sure how it looked, but I felt cute, so I boldly asked Barney, “Well, how do I look?” With the calmest and coolest demeanor, he simply nodded and said, “That’s a good one.” That, plus my daughter-in-law loved it, so that sealed the deal—I knew that was my hat!
Barney then came over and gave us an in-depth education on cowboy hats—explaining the different materials, how pricing changes based on quality, and even how round-top hats are just like traditional cowboy hats but need to be molded down. We were so captivated by his knowledge that I joked he must have felt like he was giving a TED Talk!
Beyond hats, we had the best conversation. My husband and I were stationed in Hawaii, and Barney’s son, who’s in the Coast Guard, was also stationed there. He made a comment about how if we all took the time to understand each other a little more, we’d see one another in a different light. That moment was so heartfelt that I might have scared him when I asked for a hug—but he was just such a kind soul!
I also have to give a shout-out to Misty, who was just as incredible. She gave us a thorough lesson on boots—how some stretch more than others, the unique characteristics of different brands, and how she could special-order anything if they didn’t have my size. She was down-to-earth, knowledgeable, and made our shopping experience even better with her warm smile and great conversation.
Though we didn’t interact with Jared as much, he was just as kind. When he rang up our order, he made sure we acknowledged both Barney and Misty’s excellent service. I’ve seen people remind customers to “mention their name in a review,” but Jared wasn’t about himself—he genuinely wanted his teammates to get the recognition they deserved. That spoke volumes about his character.
My daughter-in-law, grandbaby, and son-in-law now call Texas home, while my husband and I live in North Carolina. But anytime we come back, Boot Barn in Temple is the only place I’ll shop for hats, boots, or anything Western—and I’ll be...
Read moreCame looking for a new pair of riding boots. The gals there were very helpful and knowledgeable about all the brands they carry, especially when it came to the difference in fit for each. I have a problem finding shoes/boots that fit my wide bunions and skinny heel and they knew exactly which boots do well for my type of foot. Prices for boots were as expected and comparable to other stores.....some on sale, some not. I found their store brand to be very comfortable in several styles in a different heel than I was looking for this time but will definitely keep them in mind. Ended up buying a pair of name brand boots in my target...
