I have been going to this store for nearly a year. I've probably spent thousands at this store. Here's my review.
Here's the positives. Selection. Very good variety of games. Nintendo, Sega, Sony, Xbox, they even have some Atari, 3DO, and Philips CDI. They might not have exactly what you're looking for, but you can find some very good titles. Friendly staff. I haven't had any problems with any of their employees. Trade-ins. Games, consoles, peripherals, and some video game merchandise can be exchanged for store credit or cash. You need an ID to make a store account, you get 2% back on purchases or 5% if you buy their $20/yr membership. Their stock changes frequently from trade-ins. Repair service. They have a $2 disc buffing service you can buy. If a console or cartridge is giving you trouble, they can mediate a repair from a repairman they know. Or if you feel like doing something yourself they might have some parts to sell you. Imports. The store has a dedicated shelf for imported games. Famicom, Super Famicom, Japanese Gamecube, Japanese PlayStation 2, and a handful of PAL games. Not a lot of games from handhelds though. Price. Their prices are mostly fair with some games being above or below what you could find online.
Here's the negatives. Haggling. Good luck, I've only managed to get a discount a few times. It really depends on what you're trying to haggle for and their margin for it. I would say wait for a sale or try to help them clear their bargain bins. Store news. They do have an email list, but most of their posts are on Facebook. If you don't have an account then certain news like weekly drops won't come to you, you'll have to seek them yourself. Disk buffer. It's nice that they can repair discs in-house, but their disc buffer is LOUD! Shopping while its going can be distracting, but it's only usually running while they aren't busy. Price tags. No, not the prices ON the tags, the tags themselves. On smooth plastic they tear very easily and leave behind residue. If you want them to be pristine, be ready to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTheyāll buy from you for a dollar and resell for 15$ Every bad component that we all dislike about GameStop applies directly to this establishment. For being THE ONLY game store within the immediate location of middleville/Hastings/caledonia, they really do not have good deals on anything. Mainly a store focused on accessories that nobody wants cuz theyāve all been in there since their opening. If you need something modern-gaming oriented⦠it is not there. Terrible trade in deals/store credit system/salesmanship. I wouldnāt say they are not friendly people, but when you walk in thinking itās gonna be a cool placeā¦you get this feeling that they are gonna rip you off or just be an overall undesirable space to be in. The last 3 times Iāve been in there, I feel like I am just there to donate my gaming stuff. Itās where you go if you want to just get rid of your games and consoles for next to no money. If I could give you a -5 stars then I would. Cant be just me. My most passionate detail of this place is the sticky fingers on one of the employees (name redacted) If you bring something in for trade, better know what you walked in with. Maybe a cord will disappear or something. You know?! I speak...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place is a scam. I had some things I was hoping to get a fair price on and I even talked myself down initially before I had arrived only to be met with pennies on the dollar with what myself and other peers whom are knowledgeable with equipment, pricing, quality, etc. I wouldn't recommend coming here to sell for that reason. I brought in a variety of products and while waiting to hear back from their thoughts found a few similar products on the self for about $80-150 and when they got back to me with pricing everything I brought in was $80 I was expecting about $600 absolute minimum. I left extremely disappointed and that is the only way I have left this place- this isn't the first time. It's astonishing how many 5 star rating this...
