Homesense — Local services in Totowa

Let me start by saying, I love Homesense. This review does not reflect on the brand itself but this particular store in Totowa Square Mall. Went to return an item that was actually defective (Tommy bahama beach chair handle broke as soon as I sat on it at the beach). I purchased the item 07/02 , went to use it for 4th of July and the item broke with a minute of use. Stored it in my car until my vacation was over and came to return/exchange the item 07/12 with tags and receipts, because as I said, I never even enjoyed the item. The Manager JOSEPH was so unprofessional and rude; he reported he cannot take back used items despite my explanation that the item broke as I went to use it. He doubted my story saying that how does he know I just didn’t misuse the item, ok fair, but I didn’t, and the item broke within seconds of use. I didn’t even ask for a refund, just an exchange or store credit. He spewed condescending comments out at me saying “well it doesn’t matter how long you used the chair, you still used it”. Disgusting. I have been shopping at Homesense for years and I go very often and have NEVER experienced anything like it. I usually go to the Paramus location and I’ve never had anyone be so unprofessional. Manager JOSEPH needs some education on how to be in customer service because even if he is correct (which I don’t believe he is), it is not an excuse or reason to belittle a customer or make a customer feel as if they’re lying about the return. In the end he begrudgingly refunded me and walked away shaking his head and angry....

The worst experience I have ever had in my life in this store. Yesterday 01/02/2015 at 8:16 pm, I went to the store with my mother and son to buy some decorations for my house. Twice the manager told me to leave the store because my son might break something, my son was not touching anything. When I went to pay at the register, she told me that she was going to call the police on us. We didn't break anything in the store for her to talk to us like that. I DID NOT KNOW THAT BRINGING CHILDREN IS PROHIBITED IN THE STORE!. They have to improve how they treat customers and if they don't want to work in customer service they should look for...

Like all TJX stores, it's AWESOME! We're lucky to have multiple HomeGoods and TJ Maxx stores in close proximity to each other and now to have a brand new Marshalls and HomeSense; it's even better. The new store smell; everything is brand new, well lit, and overall beautiful. The best thing about these stores is the changing inventory and the uniqueness of so many of the items. It's always such a pleasure shopping at these stores! I'll always be a loyal...
