I’m not one to leave a negative review, however after having a day to reflect on my experience from yesterday’s class I feel obligated to share my experience because the way I was treated was horrid & completely unacceptable. Yesterday morning I showed up at Club Pilates for my first class. Although the club offers a free intro class, the options for class selection were limited so I decided to skip the free trial and pay the $39 so that I could take the 6:30AM class that I was interested in. I was “greeted” by Ruthie (the class instructor) who actually gave me the complete opposite of a greeting. She signed me in & said, “why does this say it’s your first class?”. I said, “because it is.”. She rolled her eyes & made a face that made it clear she was extremely annoyed to have a first timer in her class. She said, “it’s your first class & you chose MY 1.5 as your first class?” insinuating that a first timer is not worthy or qualified to take her class. I explained how I do a lot of yoga & although I’m aware Pilates is different, I’m confident I’ll be able to keep up & it would be a fun challenge if nothing else. She began to question me on where I do yoga, to see if where I take yoga was good enough for her. I let her know the studio I had been attending. Class started & I was able to keep up with all of the exercises thus far with ease, even doing some of the more advanced modifications that she was offering. Being it was my first class I wasn’t familiar with some of the vocabulary cues so I would sometimes first observe what others were doing & then followed along. Ruthie announces to the entire class that, “this is her first time here & I really didn’t want to let her take my class but it’s not my studio so what was I supposed to do? She said she does yoga & I vetted her on it so here she is.” Naturally, the entire class looked over at me. I couldn’t believe how she attempted to embarrass me in front of the entire class. I say “attempted” because let’s be real here, the only person she embarrassed was herself. I was shocked. I felt a need to respond & firmly but politely said, “yes well I think I’m doing just fine so far.” This was about half way into the class, so 30min in. A classmate next to me turned to me & whispered, “you’re doing really great”, which was super sweet & made me feel good. You’d think that would have come from the instructor though, but instead Ruthie was going out of her way to try & shame me & make me feel uncomfortable during class. Somehow I offended her ego that I was able to keep up. Her insecurity is actually laughable. Poor girl. Luckily I have thick skin, I could see how someone else could have felt really badly. There was only one move during the class that I was struggling with a bit. Instead of Ruthie offering help, she came over to me & with an attitude & for everyone to hear said, “I think you should just sit this one out.” I responded saying I’m going to keep trying, in which her response was, “your foot isn’t even on the bar correctly”. She could have offered to help me adjust my form but chose to harass me & try to embarrass me instead, once again embarrassing herself because truly, what instructor acts like this?! She should invest in some self help books on how to treat people. After class, the same classmate who was so kind to me earlier came up to me & told me Ruthie can be abrupt at times, & that she thought I did great. Before leaving, I met Ruthie at the front desk & asked if I were to come back to her class, is she going to harass & try to embarrass me again. Her response was that she felt I shouldn’t come back to her class again. I laughed, & said, “seriously??” The experience was so off putting to me & still is. No one should treat another human being that way, & it’s also just poor business practice. I was planning on becoming a regular but thanks to Ruthie, I’ll never be back. When I spoke with management about it they apologized to try & appease me & to get me to come back but defended Ruthie saying she’s one of their best. I’d hate to see who their...
Read moreI have been going to Club Pilates Miller Place for a year now and it has transformed my mind, body and soul. I look forward to every class and have made some great friends along the way. All of the instructors are wonderful and they each bring something unique to every class. Ruthie’s classes challenge me like no other. She pushes you to get in those extra reps to get your body looking and feeling sexy and strong. Banu’s energy and music in FIT class gets me pumped up and ready to take on the world. She teaches you proper form while burning a ton of calories. Kailyn and Adrienne bring positive energy to get you going in Cardio Sculpt and have helped me build muscles in places I didn’t think were possible! Lizanne brings good vibes and fun new moves to all of her classes. I love that she has evening classes so I can leave all the stress of my workday behind. Michelle encourages us to try challenging new moves in her flow classes but also offers modifications to work your way up. These women have helped build my confidence to be my best self. Can’t wait to see what this next year of...
Read moreThere is no bad instructor at Miller Place Pilates. David hired a great crew and I am so grateful for everyone who works here. You can tell David is a great boss because it’s all positive vibes here! The one critical review was from Jaclyn M. Please pay no attention to her review! Her loss. She was arrogant enough to sign up for an advanced class without ever taking the intro class that is needed to learn the equipment and the names for everything! She should have never signed up since she had no prior experience. Yoga and Reformer Pilates are as different as basketball and baseball. What was she thinking? And then to take offense at Ruthie without understanding that Ruthie’s classes are ruthless ! ( she pushes you to your limit) Ruthie is humble, hilarious and down to earth. Unfortunately Jaclyn’s ego kept her away from the best place there is...
