Southpaw Sports Cards — Local services in Town of Cicero

I wanted to write a new review of this store, but was forced to edit my previous one. I originally visited this shop with my kids sometime in early 2021, and we had an awesome experience. We stopped in a couple more times last summer as well. I visited this store again in early May of 2022, and I couldn’t have had a more different experience. To put it bluntly, the owner swore dozens of times in the 10 minutes we were in the store. I had an 8 year old and 10 year old with me for all of it. Another customer who was beside me for a lot of the time told me that this behavior was an everyday thing for him and that his help had quit and nobody can stand to be around him anymore. This experience was polar opposite of my previous ones when other employees were in the shop. I attempted to change subjects and buy cards several times but the owner couldn’t even answer simple questions about products he sells. I was told by another customer the person who knows the products no longer works here. I see alot of positive reviews and I believe them all, but they are all old. When other people were working at this place and presumably when this owner wasn’t so unhinged. I won’t be back to watch this ship sink, this guy...

They have all the latest stuff and some older product. Pokemon, sports...etc. Also has supplies such as cases, sleeves, binders. Most of the items they sell at retail price or slightly above it based on market price. However, it is much cheaper than if you were to buy the same item on eBay. So for the reviews that are complaining about prices, yes some prices may seem "inflated" but take a look at the same item on eBay and you'll appreciate this shop. If you build a connection with them they're more likely to work with you on pricing. Remember, they're a small business and not a large retail store. If you're the type that will complain about Wal-Mart/Target selling a pack of cards cheaper then go to the large retail store but try to go to there and find that item and good luck buying more than 2 items from that store. If you're looking for a certain product this is the place to go! Been going here since I was a kid. This store is for collectors and anyone in the hobby. Prices are reasonable and they have great availability of items....

I would personally like to thank the man I spoke to, when I first visited this store about a week and a half ago(I believe your name is Mark, from what I've read on here). Never have I been in a store so ready to help its customers. I've read some reviews of this place that suggest that the management is moody, or unreasonable, and that prices are gauged, and I absolutely could not disagree more. I was helped, and all of my questions were answered. The prices were extremely fair, and people should realize that small businesses need to make money too! Every single thing that could be used as an accessory for cards seems like it is given the lowest price possible which shows me that you actually care to help customers of various collections take care of their cards, which feels extremely welcoming, as someone who is new to the hobby. If you're reading this, do not skip on a visit to the best damn sports card store in the state...
