So let me start by saying my only experience with sushi is from Chinese buffets and the casino, I haven't been brave enough to try raw fish sushi yet! I was craving some sushi and decided to stop into Frankie Sushi tonight for the first time. It's a nice little place inside, very warm and inviting. I was greeted quickly but was alos the only there considering it was after 9:30 pm and they close at 10 pm. The hostess was very friendly and pleasant, she asked if I wanted a table, take out or to sit at the bar. I wanted take out and I ordered a California roll and a tempura shrimp roll. I sat at a table while they made these rolls fresh, service was very quick and only cost $15. I have no idea what reasonable prices of sushi are and to be fair I don't really care Lol. I'm the only one in my house thst eats it so $15-$20 to satisfy my cravings once in awhile seems reasonable to me. Let's talk about the food, got home and as the picture shows both rolls were packed up nice and tidy in a to go container. That container also had ginger and Wasabi along with 2 packets of soy sauce. I tried the California roll first and it was delicious! Probably the best California roll I've ever had, so fresh, so tasty! The avocado was fresh, the crab meat (or possibly imitation?) Was fresh and delicious, perfect balance of all the flavors. Now let's talk about the tempura shrimp roll, this is the first time I've ever had one so I have nothing to compare it to but.... this is my new favorite food! The shrimp was fresh, crispy amd delicious! The avocado gave it just enough creamines along with the crunch of the shrimp that it just makes such a perfect combo. But the eel sauce.... my god the eel sauce made my taste buds light up! I wish I would have bought another tempura shrimp roll, they're that good! I will definitely be back to Frankie Sushi! Now I will say.... it's kind of odd to go into a sushi place and here like hard core hip hop, personally I don't care but this wasn't radio friendly hip-hop. The language might not be appropriate if you brought the whole family but then again it is a bar and it was 30 minutes before closing. I'm not a sushi expert but I really enjoyed my food and can't wait to get another tempura...
Read moreLast night was the second time my mother, sisters, and I went to Frank's. First time I had no complaints. Last night, was disappointing. I ordered the prime rib sandwich (the prime rib was overcooked and dry) and asked if I could have broccoli instead of fries and the waitress said yes. She never told me they would charge me for a side of broccoli! Also the table next to us ordered wings (it was $.49 wing night) and there were 8 more wings on his plate than he ordered. When he called the waitress back over and told her, she took his plate to the kitchen and removed the extra wings - why?! Makes me wonder if they would re-serve them to someone else... I...
Read moreI never like to give bad reviews about a restaurant, but I just had such a disappointing experience that I feel the need to share. When I took the first bite of my sushi, it was warm, had no flavor, was chewy, and made me sick. It wasn't good, and I really wanted this place to be good, as I think Cicero lacks authentic Japanese cuisine. Everyone may feel differently about their food, but one rule for me in sushi is that if it's warm, that is a bad sign that the sushi fish is not fresh. However, I will give them the benefit of the doubt; they had very friendly service and staff, and the atmosphere was cozy. But unfortunately, it's not enough for...
