We took a trip out on the Marlinspike with Captain Hagen today and had a wonderful time! The boat is lovely and very quaint and comfortable, and Anton even went to the effort of flying the flags of us and our other guests for the journey. We went out to Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island and had a fabulous swim in the shallow, warm water there using the provided pool noodles. Anton and his lovely wife were very warm and knowledgeable about the local area, and they gave us so many fascinating facts during the journey. We loved seeing the huge horseshoe crab shells that had washed up on the preserve beach too! We had a wonderful day trip and would love to come back for a sunset cruise as the Sag Habor sunsets are something else 🙂
We would thoroughly recommend taking a trip our with Captain Hagen during your time in the lovely village...

My friend and I who were also guests at his lovely Main Street home enjoyed taking in the beautiful scenery and interacting with the other house guests on board as well as with Captain Hagen and his son who were both exceptionally knowledgeable, experienced and gracious! I particularly enjoyed anchoring near the shore of Shelter Island’s Mashomack Preserve and taking a refreshing dip in the clear and calm waters there - floatation accessories were offered which allowed for total relaxation. I highly recommend booking a cruise or charter with Sag Harbor Charters!

Captain Hagen’s vintage wooden vessel was comfortable and accommodating in all ways for our party of six old friends, but the revelation was the skipper’s detailed knowledge of north haven, where we’ve had a home for many years. He shared what he knew about the waters and coastline features both there and along Shelter Island… in waters we’d sailed past many times in our own old cutter without the benefit of a great story teller’s rich narratives. There are creeks and inlets and beaches we’ll want to explore again, thanks to a delightful summer evening cruise with just the right captain on just the right vessel for the job.
