Our entire experience at Dopo was terrible. I came in tonight with two friends, we are all young girls are we got treated like we were not welcome, as opposed to everyone else being treated very kindly. Right off the bat we were seated at a bad table that was crammed right between the front door (with a lot of action passing behind us) and another table. My friend who was seated with her back against the other table couldn't even fit in the chair due to how far the people seated behind her were pushed out, so we asked our waiter, Walter, if we could switch seats. Walter responded with "you need to ask the hostess," and made it our responsibility. It then took us five minutes to find the hostess and as we moved tables all of the staff that was assisting us acted as if it was a hassle. As Walter took our orders he was EXTREMELY passive aggressive. The two friends I was with both modified menu items due to dietary needs, and Walter was very unreceptive about this and kept responding very rudely when my friends would ask for clarification that he had written everything down correctly. The dietary restriction of one of my friends is that is vegan and gluten free, so she ordered gluten free spaghetti and made sure to comment that she could not eat cheese. I ordered regular spaghetti, and when our plates came out looking identical my friend wanted to double check that hers was modified. She had to ask a food runner because our waiter was no where to be found, despite his constant attentiveness to all of his tables other than us. When Walter did arrive and my friend asked if her meal was correctly modified, he just said yes and walked away. My friend then took a bite of her pasta, to realize that it tasted insanely like cheese, which she cannot eat. She asked another food runner to get Walter, because he kept ignoring us, and when he came over he just said that there is no cheese and left before my friend could say anything else. I then proceeded to taste my friends meal and compare it to mine, and hers did taste like cheese and mine absolutely did not. It was clear that they mixed up our orders, and after sitting at the table with my friend not eating for a good 20 minutes Walter finally came over. When we explained that my vegan friend's food was not vegan, he literally didn't care. We ended up still having to pay for the pasta because he refused to believe that they messed up the order. Whether it was a miscommunication or his ignorance, it was the wrong dish and despite it being his job to do so, he would not lift a finger to double check. My friend went home starving and all of us felt uncomfortable...
Read moreEXCELLENT: 10/10: My family and I (party of 4) cannot say enough great things about this restaurant. We had the BEST candlelit table in the house. The restaurant was furnished by Restoration Hardware I believe. The ambiance at this restaurant is so romantic, low lighting- perfect for a date night! All neutral colors. Corner table surrounded by windows- Overlooking the sunset, boats, yachts &water. It was next to the bar- but luckily it was Monday evening, so it wasn’t crowded or noisy. Our waitress was so kind and attentive. She offered great recommendations. The outside garden patio seating area is stunning. Twinkling lights are above the tables that are surrounded by hydrangea flowers. The hostess stands right outside at the front door/ entrance to outside garden seating area. My mother had a glass of white wine, and I had their version of an Aperol Spritz. Our appetizers for the table were the Tonno: spicy tuna tartare- 10/10 -So clean- the food was placed on the plate so beautifully. Second app was the Carasau Flatbread - which was ok. 5/10. It was a simple flatbread with what seemed to be olive oil. Still not too bad though, but we should have gone with the Burrata!!! 3/4 of us had the Rigatoni with sausage, peas in a vodka sauce entree (It sounded so good most of us ordered it!!). And lastly- our DESSERT! We went with the tiramisu (classic)- and it was probably one of the best tiramisu’s I’ve ever had. And finally, we ended with the PANNA COTTA. Which is a classic vanilla custard topped with fresh berries. It was so delicious. Very light- not heavy- and SO GOOD! Please, please, next time you’re in Sag Harbor, make a reservation (or two!) for Dopo La Spiaggia. They will NOT disappoint! We can’t wait...
Read morethis was truly one of the strangest dining experiences i’ve ever had. you can tell the place is going through transition and it impacted the entire dining experience.
the hosts initially sat us outside adjacent to the host stand… facing the parking lot? we asked to be moved inside and got a new server who made us feel so rushed! we had just sat and were talking when she walked over to us mid sentence, cuts us off and says “sorry to interrupt can i get you started with anything” we then ordered a starter (spicy tuna tartare and then both ordered the steak)
our tuna tartare arrived with no crackers.. we were supposed to just eat it with our forks? we had gotten bread that was hard and stale and i looked over and saw a basket of bread, uncovered, sitting out that they were slicing and putting on tables. there were flies crawling over our bread so imagine how many were crawling over the basket?!
when the steak arrived my friend and i were shocked!!! we honestly were starving and didn’t want to be those people that sent back steaks but genuinely have never eaten a worse steak. it was described as Painted Hills Strip, creamy tellicherry pepper sauce, crushed potatoes what we got was a grey steak, cut SO thick, with a gelatinous sauce (pls refer to pics to laugh bc how could that be described as CREAMY) and whole unsalted bland potatoes described as “crushed” one potato had an entire chunk missing. it also had capers on it?? for $52 i’ve had better steaks at chilis. at one point i said, im so hungry but i cannot finish this.
we also felt incredibly rushed despite the place being fairly empty.
the hamptons is expensive but pls spend your money somewhere where it doesn’t feel like you just threw $200...
