This is a terrific lunch stop in the summer, preferably during the week when it is less crowded. Located on the waterfront on Long Wharf in historic Sag Harbor the shop offers a full line of fresh seafood products and delicious prepared food items. Place your order and receive a numbered clam shell. I love the fresh grilled tuna steak served on crispy bread with a small container of home made salsa, tartar sauce, a slice of fresh tomato, and spicy waffle fries. The shop also has a bathtub full of live lobsters for your summer cook out and even a garden salad with grilled chicken for the non-seafood lovers in your group. If you can get one of the seats at the counter, you can watch the comings and goings of the beautiful people of the Hampton's as they make their way down the dock to their multi million dollar yachts. Because of its popularity, the shop can get very crowded at times so choose your time carefully. If it's crowded, get your meal to go and sit on one of the benches at Windmill Beach near the LCpl Jordan C. Haerter Memorial Bridge and watch the activity in the...
Read moreThe Dock House is a great place to go for a casual seafood dining experience. The prices aren't too bad for the area (I think it was about $13 for my skewered spicy shrimp), but the portion sizes weren't all that impressive. The waffle fries, while delicious, made up the vast majority of my meal. If you come here hungry, I suggest getting a soup along with your meal to help fill you up.
I definitely recommend coming here with the intention of taking your meal to go. It's a small place and the interior can get crowded very quickly. There are a couple of tables with about 4 or 5 stools at each one, and there's a short bar with some stools as well. The last time I went there, I was with three friends and we sat at one of the tables to eat. The lines that formed for placing/picking up orders snaked near and around our table throughout our meal (which we expected due to the size of the place).
I'm looking forward to my next visit to The Dock House so I can try out their lobster rolls. I've seen pictures of them and they...
Read moreThe seafood on display in the refrigerator case looked very fresh. The view of the harbor can only be matched if you had a boat tied up at the dock at Sag Harbor. The clam chowders were good with a slight nod going to the New England preparation. The fried flounder was served on a bun. The portions are generous and the prices are not bad, considering this is the Hamptons. I have one suggestion: abandon the 3.5 per cent surcharge on credit cards and go over to a cash -only policy if the charges that credit -card companies impose are too onerous. One suspects that a seafood shack on the Long Wharf in Sag Harbor does a pretty good business so the surcharge is an annoyance. At least the young man at the counter informed every customer of the surcharge beforehand, although that didn't help me because I wasn't carrying sufficient cash to cover my check.
This is a seafood shack, not a formal dining venue like the place next door. They appear to do a good...
