So I came for box braids and I never had such awful service. Waited an hour for the apt I made a week in advance was the first offense but I thought hey it’s no big deal. I never complain usually but wow. So they ripped through my hair with a blow dryer on high heat and when I said please use low heat and start from the tips so got an attitude and said it’d take too long. So after ignoring and frying my hair and ripping out strands. She used a rubber band to keep my hair up which is so bad to use on natural hair. Then when she was parting my hair for the braids she used a metal hair clip that proceeded to rip out hair and once she commenced the braiding I asked nicely to do it loose and she did for half my head then at the front she did it way too tight to the point it felt like my hair was being ripped out (and no I’m not tender headed) and I kept telling her to make them loose but she said my hair is too thick to braid so she has to make them tight which is stupid since I’ve gotten box braids before and they never complained about my hair being too thick (which makes no sense) and I also asked for medium braids at shoulder length and got small box braids that covered my belly bottom. Read moreI was Held HOSTAGE and Hit!!! The WORST experience I have ever had in my life. I spoke to the hairdresser before buying my hair and asked nearly 5 times: "What is the price?" She refused to state a price. I called the number listed on google and she called back from another (917) number, which was very scam artist like. She then told me over the phone twist hair extensions start from $160. I brought the hair for the extensions and withdrew $200. Upon completion she charged $240. I only had $200 with the assumption it would cost around $160, like she stated on the phone. She said I cannot leave the store until I pay her $240, she kept the door locked and it was 10pm at night. I was held in a hostage situation which then lead me to call the police. I called the police, left the money on the counter and tried to escape. She pushed me away from the door, she tried to grab my phone when I tried to record her behavior. I yelled at her in self defense and banged on the door for help trying to push my way past her. Despite this, I was asked to wait for about 30 minutes.
Eventually, another stylist approached to start my hair. Before she began, I asked about the cost and was told it would be $70 due to the volume of my hair. As a professional stylist, it is part of the job to handle different hair types and volumes without extra charges or complaints.
I felt disrespected and frustrated by the lack of communication and the time wasted. Instead of giving me the run-around, your staff should have been upfront about any potential issues or additional charges from the beginning.
