Siren — Local services in Town of Mamaroneck

I would like to preface this with the fact that I have never written a bad review for any business before. But here is my review of Siren.

First off, I prefer to patronize local independent businesses rather than big box or chain stores. As such, after I had lunch with a friend from New Rochelle on Mamaroneck Ave. yesterday, I invited her to accompany me to shop at Siren. While I was browsing, I found a leather shopping bag that I fell in love with. I thought it would be perfect for vacation.

Siren does not have price tags on many of is products. There was no price tag on the bag. Nor was there a price tag on the identical bag (except for the color). Although I am uncomfortable asking for a price in a store, I loved the bag so I asked what the bag cost. I was told the price was $138.00. That was in my price range, so I gave the bag to the sales clerk to hold while I continued to shop. While I was browsing, the sales clerk confirmed on her own that the price was $138.00.

When I went to the counter to pay for the bag, the sales clerk made a phone call and then told me the price was $298.00. I said you told me just a few minutes ago that the price was $138.00 and then you even confirmed the price. I told her any other store would honor their oral offer, which had been accepted by me verbally. In my mind, when an offer is accepted, that's called a contract. The sales clerk told me that it was human error, which is irrelevant here, since she had confirmed the price twice before. She also said that she would not even give me a discount and that she was firm on the price. I asked her if the owner was on the phone and she said yes.

I asked to speak to the owner, and, at that point, the sales clerk insisted that I leave the store or she would call the police. I chose to leave the store at that point and told the sales clerk that I would write a review on social media.To be clear, I was calm and never raised my voice. My friend, who witnessed this entire event, was horrified. I have never been treated like that or have ever been so embarrassed.

I would not recommend that anyone patronize Siren for all of the reasons stated above. They do not have prices on many of their items and they do not honor the prices...

Great shop! Maria is so sweet! Her prices are discounted all the time. I love the selection of clothing. She doesn’t push you to buy anything. I was going to pull the trigger and impulse buy and she even encouraged me to think about it and come back. She’s lovely. I can’t wait to go back and see what she gets in next week. I highly recommend you visit and check this place...

Love this boutique! I can always find a wonderful unique gifts. I stopped by today to get a few Christmas gifts, she was closed but let me in and took such good care of me & my gifts. It’s businesses like this that make me never want to shop for anything online. Love this business & the owner...
