Horrible! We were really disappointed that the old Pittsford Cinema closed to become the Apple Theater but, we were excited to try this new concept. We’ve had friends who have been to similar concepts in Syracuse that had great things to say. We decided to give it a shot this week. The website is clunky and not entirely user friendly (which I find weird while using an Apple device to look it up). When clicking on the movie we wanted the site was wonky and slow. Finally getting to the page where the seat selection was, although it tells you where the screen is, it also only showed 3 rows of seats, which I thought perhaps the site wasn’t loading correctly and I didn’t want to purchase the seats ahead if that was the case. I’d rather go there and talk to someone to see what the layout was. Well, from the minute we arrived to absolutely filthy entrance doors, as if they are original to the old theater and someone forgot to clean them, to stepping foot inside, it was clear the place had changed drastically and not for the better. We hear someone yell from behind a counter/bar asking if we had tickets. We replied we did not but had a question about the seating situation and asked if there really were just 3 rows. The guy behind the bar who is talking with a woman sitting at the bar tells us that yes some just have 3 and that we need to use the kiosk to purchase tickets. Ok, no problem. As we get halfway through the prompts the guy yells from behind the bar again and says that first kiosk has been acting up so we might need to go to another one and start over. Naturally at this point we aren’t feeling like there is any quality customer service happening here. Thankfully our kiosk did work and printed our tickets so we could proceed to our theater. As we’re walking by the bar the same guy (looks like only one working at that time) is still just talking to the woman at the bar and turns to us and starts rattling off some instructions like an auctioneer. I stopped and said, “excuse me, what was that?”, at which point he told us how to order through the QR code once we reached our theater. Fine. We go in and sit down and start the process of ordering a popcorn. The system wants you to open an acct, put all of your info in and submit it. Nah, not for an order of popcorn, especially if we want to pay cash. So my husband goes out to the guy at the counter and asks to order the popcorn at which point he seemed irritated that he has to stop talking to this woman at the bar and take an order. He specifies that if he puts in the order that way that it won’t be delivered to our seat. We didn’t care, we just wanted to buy popcorn with cash and be on our way. My husband was fine waiting only, the popcorn comes from somewhere else than behind the bar and it took 10 minutes. Yes, 10 minutes and there was no one else there. When it came time to pay my husband asked if he had change and the guy said, “we’ll see”, in a snide manner. His demeanor was so off putting from the minute we entered that my husband said we should have left right then. Needless to say the popcorn was the worst we’ve ever had and we threw it out on our way out of the theater. Low and behold the same woman was at the bar an hour and 40 minutes later with him still draped over the counter. My guess is it was a friend keeping him company at work so he didn’t have to help customers. Worst movie experience ever and Apple should be ashamed to attach their name to this theater. I never leave bad reviews but dang, this earned it. Save your money and go...

It was a decent overall experience, but having been to a few of these full service theaters and having been looking forward to this one opening for a long while, I was a bit disappointed.
The food was a mixed bag. We shared a popcorn and the cheeseburger. The popcorn was fine, but for $10 it seemed a bit small. The fries were actually pretty good, crispy outside and fluffy inside, decently seasoned. The burger was pretty much fast food level. Not terrible, not something I'd want again. At $15 it wasn't cheap, but I think it's actually a very reasonable price for the situation.
To me, the biggest issue with the food was the selection. All they have is burgers, chicken, hot dogs, popcorn (just plain or buttered), and chips and dip. For the kind of crowd that's willing to pay a premium for this kind of thing, I think that's too basic. Could use some more creative options.
Similarly, the drinks options were very, very disappointing. No local or real craft beer options seems like a huge miss for this kind of venue. Places like Nitehawk and Alamo offer a wide variety of of craft beer and creative cocktails. It's a big part of the appeal for me. And again, I think it's something a lot of people who are willing to pay the premium for this type of theater experience are looking for.
Those are all fixable things and I hope in time they will adjust. One annoyance I dont think is fixable, at least not without a huge expense, is the seats. They were comfortable enough, but the recliner buttons on the side of the arm rest instead of the top meant every time I adjusted in my seat I inadvertantly hit the button and my seat moved forward.
Not a fan of the lighting in the theater either, I understand the need for light when you are serving meals, but other theatres I've been to use individual seat lights rather than keeping the house lights up brighter throughout the movie. Makes for a much better experience overall.
I did hear some rumblings about bad service experiences when the place first opened, we absolutely did not share that experience. They had several people making sure everyone was able to get their orders in before the movie, we had no trouble and web app worked great. Our food and drinks also came out very quickly. No issues at all with the service for us today.
Overall, comparing it to the other local option, Roc Cinema, is kind of apples and oranges to me. I much prefer the food options and slightly prefer the drink options at Roc, but their screen and sound system are awful. I guess if you are more interested in the food and drinks go to Roc, if you want to really see the movie but still have a dine in experience go to Apple. But neither option has really nailed the dine in theater experience, IMO. Not as well as Nitehawk or...

To start, there’s no one checking movie tickets/purses/bags or anything when you come in, so that means any one person is able to walk directly from the parking lot to any theater they want with no checks or stops. In today’s day and age, safety at public events needs to be taken more seriously, and it’s clear the owner is either clueless to this or just doesn’t truly care about the wellness and safety of their customers.
Secondly, while I can see some perks to food/drink delivery at your seat, this needs to be rid of or some changes need to be made to make this process not so disruptive of the actual movie. We’re not at a restaurant. We’re at the movie theater to watch a movie. The doors constantly slamming closed, one of the worker’s footsteps hitting the ground as if he had tap shoes on each time he delivered to the theatre, and then employees repeatedly walking in front of the movie to deliver items was infuriating! How can anyone focus on any type of suspenseful movie with all that noise going on? There is a warning before the movie that if you are disruptive during the movie, you will be asked to leave with no refunds…. I wasn’t even able to finish the movie due to all the theater’s own distractions themselves and walked out with an hour left of the movie, which I’ve never done in my life. Thankfully I was issued a refund myself, which was the only saving grace of this theater. I will have to waste another day making the trip to a different theater tomorrow and pay more in gas just to finish a movie I’ve been waiting weeks to see…
Another thing to note is that the door to the theater behind us was open for the whole movie causing the volume and excitement of Twisters to fill the room of a quiet slow-burn Longlegs. Can employees not be more conscious about making sure all doors to running moves are closed prior to starting?
Get carpeting so guests can’t hear workers running around the theater, limit deliveries during movies, install doors that quietly shut instead of slamming, and give people the actual “luxury” experience you’re attempting instead of just looking like a Tinseltown knockoff. The few bucks you save going to this theater are definitely not worth all you have to put up with just to watch your movie. Make the drive to...
