Tried to change the price after I ordered it, made it smaller and didn't tell me until after I complained and returned it (and the owner was 100% in on it). Avoid at all costs!!!
This is continued from my other review of the Eastview Mall location. So I arrive at The Source's Pittsford location with a picture of the ring from their Eastview Mall location and they happily show it to me, and tell me they can give me the whole set (engagement ring and wedding band) for only $1187! At this point I'm extremely confused (because Eastview quoted me $999 for just the setting alone), but I really like the rings and it seemed like a good deal so I gave them a $600 deposit and told them to special order it (needed it in white gold). A few days later I get a call from them telling me that they messed up on the price and that as a result I would have to pay $120 more for it. Now at this point I have already put a large deposit down and have a receipt that clearly states the price at $1187, so I say absolutely not. So a short time later she calls me back and tells me not to worry and that they'll have it ready for me on time, for that price. About a week later, I go to pick up the rings and pay the remaining balance. When I get the rings home, I notice that the engagement ring is about 20% smaller than the ring I originally looked at (you could clearly tell when holding it next to the wedding band, which was the correct size). So at this point I have to cancel my dinner engagement plans and return the rings to the store to figure out why it's so much smaller. After leaving the rings with them and waiting a few more days, I'm told that the ring was in fact made smaller (reason given was that I was eventually going to use an .85 carat stone instead of a 1.1, which after talking to many jewelers doesn't make sense at all). I'm also told that I have no choice but to take the mini-me unmatching ring, or just take my money back. At this point I realize that I've been lied to yet again, and that they made the ring smaller intentionally for not paying the extra $120, but were hoping that I didn't notice. I took the refund and walked away an extremely unhappy customer. I was also assured by the head sales person, Michelle (who was very nice by the way and did try her best to work with the total BS that she was given to work with) that the owner himself was in the loop on the whole transaction, and that he personally refused to give me what I was quoted and had already paid for. So to sum it all up, this whole experience could've been avoided if when I first walked into The Source at Eastview Mall the sales manager would've just been straight with me and offered to sell me what I wanted, which was the setting in white gold on it's own. Overall a total nightmare of an experience from start to finish that wasted a ton of my time and put me and my finance through lots of grief for absolutely nothing. Avoid The Source...
Read moreI had a prolonged experience with the Source on Monroe avenue and kept my patience. But now I am compelled to write this review. My wife bought me a white-gold wedding band and a Movado watch for an anniversary & wedding (they matched well). I really liked their looks and feel. The ring had 3 black rings in 3 fine grooves that encircled the ring. Within 1-2 weeks the black started to fall off. The Source replaced the ring but the same thing happened. I still liked the ring and didn't say anything at first. When I went back for a watch-related problem the topic came up and Rick (the main salesman as far as I can tell) said that a lot of rings did that. (Would have been nice to have been told this up front.) Then my watch battery died within a couple of months. They graciously (at least I thought) replaced it for free. But then, humidity accumulated in the watch. They most likely had not properly sealed the watch when replacing the battery, since this problem had not occurred prior to battery replacement. They questioned what I had done with it. I had been in the ocean maybe 5-10 times with it, simply swimming, not diving at all. They took the watch to their repairman and said the gaskets were shot and that this was not covered under warranty. They said its like tires on a car. I pointed out to them that the gaskets in the watch are not like tires but more like O-rings in an engine and that those are usually covered under warranty (at least by Porsche). They didn't care. So I paid about $175 to have it fixed. When I picked it up I did not inspect it carefully - I was going out of town that day. When I took it out of the envelope I noticed that it had been severely scratched and about half the black enamel on the bezel had been removed, most likely by chemicals since much of this enamel was inset below the surface. Rick basically called me a liar when I showed him the before and after pictures, claiming that I must have damaged the watch myself. As a professional myself, I found his insinuations offensive. Its back to Mann's or Cornell's for me. Whatever I might have thought I would save by going to the source was outweighed not only by the money I eventually had to pay, but by the inferior products, service and customer relations - which they apparently don't give a hoot about once they...

The best salesperson is no longer a valued asset and doesn't work for this establishment any longer. My business was long withstanding because of how well Michele Herman treated her customers. I felt she was an extention of how this business treated all its customers and how well they treated their employees. Sadly, this isn't the case as I learned from recent research.
I use to purchase jewelry from here BECAUSE of Michele Herman.
Now this is another run of the mill discount jewelry establishment attempting to garner sales, not cultivate long term customers.
*updated 2.14.22. Still the BEST sales person ever, Michele Herman. * When ever you read reviews on Google, Yelp or other social media sites you wonder, how much is an honest opinion or a one time impression. I can say this is a 14 year review of whom I continue to choose, time and time again to purchase Jewelry from. Michele Herman at the Pittsford store is hands down, the most exceptional, caring and down to earth sales person I have ever dealt with. The price and selection is nice at The Source. The ability to have work done is on par with many of the other jewelry retailers out there. The one reason that keeps me coming back, year after year is, Michele Herman. Keep that name in your memory, you will be glad you asked for her. No matter if you are spending $50 for a pair of earrings to $5,000 for that WOW ring you want to give your loved one. She is always happy to work with you and will go the distance and then some to make the moment special. I have purchased jewelry and sold my broken gold and silver chains and have always been treated with respect and understanding. The fact she is still there after 14 years should speak to how well she does her job. So, stop reading and researching and head out to the Pittsford store and see...
