I can't tell you enough how disappointed I was. I have always wanted to go here. I have celiac disease and most places are on board with using gluten free crab and soy sauce. All of Wegmans sushi rolls are gluten free. When I sat down I asked the waitress if they have gluten free soy sauce, because I can't have wheat. I heard her go back and say out loud they need gluten free soy sauce (the cooks were standing right there. She returned with the GF sauce. When I ordered I had her help me pick the ones that are cooked (I don't want to eat raw fish). In my common sense type of thinking, I thought, if they know I can't have wheat then they will let me know if I ordered anything that had it in there. The waitress was hard to understand and I think she had more trouble understanding me. When she brought my food out (4 different rolls I planned in sharing with my partner) I saw a brown sauce on one roll. I asked her if it was gluten free. She went back and asked the chef. He said none of them are. Now we were the only two in the resturaunt. I asked him what had wheat in it. He said the crab, other things were soaked in soy sauce and the one had wheat breading. The waitress says, "what you don't want it?" I said "I can't eat it". She looked terrified. I said "I will just take it home, my fiancee can eat it". Now the chef could have offered on this no other customer day, to remake some things I could eat, instead of giving me this oh well look. She brought me the bill, with no discount, no coupon to come back, nothing to compensate for it. $43 and all I got to enjoy was a cup of tea. And to top it off the next day when I want to give the rolls to my fiancee, I realized one of the rolls had uncooked fish in it. Service 0 stars. Chefs 0 stars. If you have Celiac disease, don't assume that common sense is happening when you ask for gluten free soy sauce. You should probably skip talking to the waitress and go straigt the the chef. If you want good green tea, that's about all the place...
Read moreDilapidated and dirty interior, very average food.
I’ve been coming to PG for many years. This evening was the first time since the beginning of the pandemic.
The interior of the restaurant hasn’t been updated, or thoroughly cleaned, in many years. The carpet is greasy and dirty, several light fixtures are burned out, some of the stone facade has fallen off, there are stains on the walls. The grease panels over the hibachi grills haven’t been cleaned in a long time. The grease is literally dripping onto the grills. The lobby seating wore out years ago. Ceiling panels are missing and broken; stuff is literally hanging out of the ceiling. The hibachi grills have seen better days. The stainless steel trim around the grill top was falling off; the chef had to put it back in place a couple times. Given the poor condition of the dining area, imagine what the kitchen must look like. How does this place pass a health inspection?
The food is average at best. $37/plate is outrageous for the condition of the restaurant and the low quality food. It was hot; that’s the best I can say for it. The soup was weak broth with a couple vegetables floating in it. The salad was floating in a half inch of water and clearly wasn’t freshly made. The steak was fatty and tough; the chicken a bit rubbery.
The owners are clearly milking every dime out of the place and not investing a nickel in cleaning, repairing or updating the restaurant infrastructure, the menu or the quality of the food.
There are so many great restaurants in Rochester; this place isn’t among them. Plum Garden’s day has come and gone. Time for a major refresh...
Read moreMy wife and our two little boys visited for the first (and only) time without reservations at 6:21 on a Sunday night on a recommendation from my brother-in-law. We were told we'd have to wait 20-25 minutes, and treated the boys to Shirley Temples at the bar while we waited. Nearly an hour later, we were finally led to our hibachi table, and the boys were psyched!
Once seated, we waited some more for our waitress to come see us. Once she arrived, nearly an hour after walking in the door, she told us that we were going to need to wait AT LEAST AN HOUR a the hibachi chef to make his way to our table. Our consolation prize? Dinner sent over from the kitchen. The shrimp was over-cooked and unseasoned, my steak was over-cooked and chewy, and the chicken was unseasoned and dry. I couldn't even speak to a manager because, I was told, there wasn't even a manager in the building. A packed restaurant, and no manager?
As soon as our food was delivered, the boys ice cream (included with their meal) came out. Our dishes were never cleared. I burned my hand on the hibachi grill trying to clear our own plates and make room for the ice cream! Our waitress offered us a 15% discount and brought out fried cheesecake, on the house. I took a bite of it and had to spit it out. I worked in a restaurant for years, so I know this wasn't her fault, but this experience was completely inexcusable.
Complete waste of $100, and my wife's birthday dinner. Got to come home with two disappointed little boys. We'll never come back, and I would encourage you not to waste your time on cheap tricks and...
