Gave this a place a try over 5 years ago and was disappointed and never came back. Fast forward to 2021 and several friends recommended this place again so we decided to give it a second chance for our Anniversary. Big mistake.
We were seated with menus and it took 10 minutes before our waiter came by to ask what drinks we wanted. He was rushing to get away from us so I had to stop him and put in our food order. After this we didn't see him again until near the end of our meal over an hour later when he decided to come and ask if we wanted more drinks. I can appreciate a place with decent cocktails and we would've definitely ordered at least another 2 drinks if he bothered to come back.
From ordering to arriving at our table our entrees took 50 minutes. A couple next to us who arrived AFTER us had already finished their entire meal before ours came out.
A random staff person (non waiter) kept coming by and refilling our waters which we appreciated since we finished our first drinks pretty quickly. She cleared our table too when we had bread and appetizers. I wish the tip we left had gone to her. On the topic of appetizers their free breads are AWFUL. One was an olive bread and the other was some sort of sourdough. I love sourdough bread but this was inedible and had a bad after taste. They had to toss almost all the bread from our table because we could not scarf it down. The Wagyu meatballs were meatloaf on a stick with no flavor for $17.
Moving on to entree and pricing. For the price of the meat the sides need to be included in the meal. I paid $29 for a 9oz filet (which was well done when I asked for medium) and my side of scalloped potatoes was $13. My husband had the 20oz Cowboy ribeye for $59 and his baked potato was $13-17.
In total two meats, two sides, one app, two alcoholic beverages cost $162 before tip. Make it make sense. I've spent less at Texas de Brazil and they have a full buffet and endless meats of all kinds. We usually go there for special occasions and I will always regret not going there instead of this place.
The attentive waitress (who wasn't ours) and my husband's meal is why there's even 2 stars.
I don't normally give low reviews (if you've seen my other reviews on Yelp I'm a 4 reviewer typically) but EVERYTHING was so bad. Service, overcooked steak, bad bread, high cost and most of all the disappointment. In over 5 years this place hasn't improved. We ate nothing all day in the hopes we'd have a nice dinner for our Anniversary and left disappointed and hungry. We were better off going to Cheesecake Factory...
Read moreMy husband and I moved to Rochester six months ago, and since then, a few of our friends have mentioned that B&B was good, so we were excited about our visit. Unfortunately, from the mocktail to the dessert, everything was a disappointment.
The Mocktail – It was completely unbalanced in flavor, with the ginger beer overpowering the strawberry and mint.
Calamari – Very suspicious. The portion was tiny and served on a bed of greens?! When we order calamari, we expect beautifully crisp, salty pieces with lemon wedges and marinara sauce. Instead, the sauce was just a mix of peppers—way too spicy and didn’t complement the dish at all. Not to mention, the calamari itself was underseasoned.
Lobster Mac and Cheese – Three little pieces of lobster?! Are you kidding me? Shame on you. SALT YOUR PASTA WATER.
Filet Mignon – It was cooked, but there was no flavor whatsoever. Once again, absolutely underseasoned.
Key Lime Pie – Oh my god. The worst moment of the night. Not a trace of key lime flavor to save the restaurant’s reputation. The texture was absurd—way too much thickener. What are you trying to do?! With the prices on this menu, I’m sure you can at least buy regular limes. The crust was uneven, and that was not key lime custard—not in a million years.
Chocolate Bomb – The presentation made it look like the dish had been through a war. The texture was horrible, like eating bitter (excessive cocoa powder) curdled eggs. It was way too bitter, and the "raspberry coulis" looked and tasted store-bought. The ice cream was fine, but the whole dish was a mess. Big sad, because I was hoping for redemption with this dessert—which, by the way, was the most expensive one on the menu.
Complimentary "Chocolate Truffles" – I didn’t even want to bother eating them, but I gave it a try. As soon as the food touched my tongue, I wanted to spit it out. AGAIN, way too much bitter cocoa powder. Chocolate truffles are supposed to be soft and tender, sliding through your teeth and melting in your mouth—not a brick of whatever you put in there.
Service – As soon as we arrived the atmosphere felt weird. The hosts seemed confused about our reservation, and it took them a minute to figure out a place for us to dine. Uncommonly slow. After our appetizer, we waited about 40 minutes for our main dishes. Our waiter disappeared and never checked on us to see if we wanted anything else or to give us an update on our food.
Overall, I’m sad and disappointed. An absolute waste of calories and...
Read moremy last experience was actually horrible! not the food, because i never even got any!! granted we came to the party a little late, but we were legit seated BY WAITSTAFF and no one even payed us any mind until we summoned a young lady prepping and cleaning the bar... she said she'd send our server, but still somehow managed to put in an appetizer order for one of us late goers... by the time the waiter ACTUALLY came over and brought menus, at least 20/25 minutes went by, only for him to then come back another 10/15 min and say... oh, i don't think you can order because the kitchen is closed! (BEEN CLOSED) like huh? so you gave us menus because why? so after all this time, we can't get ANYTHING and it's too late to get food from any respectable place... gotcha... with that and the fact someone's order (that actually did get food) was messed up, we asked for a manager... I, somehow wound up being the spokesperson for the table... he ensured he'd make it right... he goes away, comes back and says he took someone's food off (that again had no issues lol) and hands 3 $10 gift cards (which is a joke in itself because $10? at black and blue? carrabas compensates better than that but ok) to a person that got food and had no issue, and the 2 other people that came in with me, all while bypassing the only person who pretty much even SAID ANYTHING, ME!... lol... so naturally I'm like well wow, how'd you forget about the person you spoke to and how'd 2 people that had no issue wind up getting compensated, and he basically spun off with an attitude saying he believes he's compensated this table ENOUGH and walked away... unreal... it wasn't even about the $10 dollars, it was the utter disregard that I'm just not feeling!
with that said... i go here often, for work events in the private room, and for personal dinners, and usually the wait staff and food are perfect! the chef is a nice guy and the Mac n cheese is different but delicious! i dream of the lobster fondue lol... i really just couldn't believe the travesty...
