The Olive Oasis — Local services in Troy

A year ago, I stopped into the Olive Oasis, and had a fantastic experience, sampling and tasting some of the most amazing flavors I'd ever tried, while chatting with the very knowledgable staff. I bought a fascinating and informative hardcover book called EXTRA VIRGINITY: THE SUBLIME AND SCANDALOUS WORLD OF OLIVE OIL by Tom Mueller. It not only got me excited about good olive oil, it warned me that most of the olive oil sold in North America is so poor that Europe considers it "lampante," fit only for burning in lamps. And it listed the lies most commonly told by olive oil fraudsters--for example, they all claim to be exclusively Italian in origin, but are not.....and they all claim to be "first cold-pressed," but rarely are. Relying on the book, when I ran out of olive oil last week, I picked up a single-family-press olive oil from Crete, called Acropolis, and I find it to be the most delicious olive oil I've ever tasted, fruity and nutty and spicy and delightful. I am very grateful to both Mr. Mueller, and the helpful and friendly staff of the Olive Oasis, for educating my palate and my purse. If I ever return to Troy, they'll be my first stop. This the only place in the Dayton area that I can find Onion based infused oil, I a health condition and I can't have certain foods, but they provide me with an infused oil I can't find anywhere so if you need a good infused oil or balsamic I would suggest going here, and if you need the onion infused look or ask for the Leek, it is best one. The owner and staff are very kind and helpful. If like to cook and like to add flavor I would suggest stopping in at the olive Oasis in Troy, Ohio infused oils are really good for intense fragrance and flavor...

I've been using the olive oils, vinegars and soaps since the store opened. The personnel are friendly and helpful and the taste is amazing. It's induced me to try new and fabulous recipes - lemon oil on chicken, fig balsamic on fish, garlic oil on broasted potatoes....and each dish is terrific.
