Start Haus is the only place to go to get the right boots!
When investing in the most important piece of equipment for skiing, you want to talk to people who know what they’re talking about and put you in the right boots. So when friends who live in the area tell you to go to Start Haus, you go!
I scheduled an appointment (a must) to get new ski boots as my old pair were set for retirement. The person helping me out (name forgotten, sorry!) measured up my feet and wanted to know what I’ve experienced with my current boots. After a long discussion, he brought out a couple pairs to test the fit. After trying on the two and giving my feedback, he brought out another pair to compare. I thought maybe he was trying to upsell me on more expensive boots, but that wasn’t the case. After trying all, I felt the second pair was the most comfortable and that’s when he went to work! After 15 minutes he came back and had me try them on again and they felt perfect. Once I purchased them I felt happy with the whole experience… but that’s not the whole story.
After a few weeks I finally got to try the boots out on mountain. They were a big improvement over my old boots, but I had a couple press points by my little toe, so I went back to the shop afterwards to share my experience… they got to work again and altered the shell a bit to give me more room and voila!
If you need new boots or you need to refit your current boots, don’t go...
Read moreHands down, this oasis of skis, boots, and customized fitting services deserves five stars. A friend told me about Start Haus and I'd checked out their online presence before booking my appointment for boot fitting. First off, the store (new location) couldn't be any easier to get too, located right off of 80. Secondly, everyone in the shop is professional and accommodating. I was running an hour late for my fitting due to a pile up on 80; I called to say as much and the person on the phone was accommodating and let me know they'd do what they could when I got there. Mike did my fitting and I was bracing for the worst in terms of expenditure, because I'd heard things could get pricey. To my surprise (and this still has nothing to do with the absolute professionalism of the shop) my boots where actually good and only modification was suggested. After determining that my current inserts where also good, Mike evaluated my foot and boot and proceeded to make a few punches to allow my foot more room in the front (due to bunion). Wow!!! What a difference when I got on the snow later that day. The boot felt altogether different and I wasn't in wrenching pain. This place is the real deal -- excellent selection of skis & boots and exemplary service & knowledge. Thank you Start Haus -- I'll definitely be back. This is the epitome of a great...
Read moreI have tough feet to fit in a ski boot. I have probably had many of the famed boot fitters in the USA work on fitting me into ski boots from NYC, VT, Park City, UT, (most all of them there) and now Start Haus in Truckee, CA. Oh gosh did they ever solve my problems. I now can finally carve my skis and the boots are actually comfortable. My ability has improved 100% Reid sold me the Atomic Jr boot and Greg made the orthotic and punched out where I needed more room plus he moved the buckles to allow me to make the cuff of the boot tighter for my slim ankles and lower leg. I have very narrow heels and a wider forefoot(bunions on both feet) with high knees so that calf is way above the boot top. In the past I have had Lange and Head boots but in all of them were too wide when I rolled my ankle to reach the edge of the ski my foot rolled within the boot before the ankle engaged to get onto the edge of the ski. I also have my skis stone ground at Start Haus and they do an exceptional job. I had a favorite place in Park City with Jeff Butz at Podium but the grind and tune at Start Haus is just as perfect. You cannot go wrong with Start Haus. GO THERE...
