Edit: December 1, 2020. I appreciate the quick response to my complaint below. It shows the usual customer service that I do receive when I visit the store, which is often. It may be the best and most unique Ace Hardware store I have seen. Thank you for your response and understanding. I will be by again in a few weeks! Back to a 5 star review!

Usually my visits at Mountain Hardware are very good. But my last two visits this weekend were not so good. The first experience was with an employee escorting me to an area to purchase the tools to reseal the bath and shower. Wrong tools were shown. 2nd was yesterday at the checkout area. I experienced a grinch checking out. She must have had a bad day and was not very gracious. You see, the day before I was given a $5 bonus certificate for spending over $25. When I was to purchase yesterday, I presented my $5 certificate and she said it was not good until December. That was not very clear on the certificate. Then I said it looks like I earned another $5 bonus on this transaction. She said no... the pre tax purchase was $23.60 and the after tax was just over $25. Since my pre tax was under she said no. She could have suggested to purchase 2 of the $1 candies at the check stand, but did not or just be a friendly cashier/ owner and be in the spirit to give me the $5 bonus. I am a repeat customer and you would think you would want to keep me happy and to keep spending money. This weekends experience deserves no more...

This is a great hardware store. Yes, there are lots of nice clothing and home goods for sale, and you may ask why that is at a hardware store. But this place is so much more, and if you look at the clothing and home stuff, it's all really good quality stuff. If you are in Truckee and need shoes or boots, for example, you may pay retail but you will get very good boots. Honestly, I never come in without checking the clothes. Now, for the hardware, this is where this store really shines. It's not a lumberyard, but the selection of lumber, trim and plywoods is great. Need to patch and seal your driveway? Sand or snow melt? Blue recycling bags that don't fall apart between the kitchen and the front door of the house? Check. Need to order an obscure handle for your 70s era sliding glass door? Check. How about the swanky Meyer's dish soap or hand soap? Electrical fittings? Plumbing? Repoint the grout in your kitchen tile or the mortar in you fireplace? Check. Refill (not exchange!) your propane? Check. Need real tools for forestry? You are covered. Wood chips for your smoker? Indeed. The bottom line is, if they can't provide it, they probably know who can. Make this...

I cannot say nothing wrong about this store it is the best Ace Hardware I've ever been into I do a lot of shopping here for business and they always have everything I need and if they do not have it they will order it and get it to me very quickly they have a cool selection of almost everything you can think of and if they don't have it like I said they will get it for you they have many different departments full of good quality products and it seems like they always have something I need on sale the staff is super friendly and eager to help if you live in Truckee or the surrounding areas this should be your go-to spot for pretty much anything you need I really enjoy their outdoor section seems like they're always getting new stuff in and everything's top of the line very reasonable prices I have even look stuff up online to see if I could get it cheaper and they were cheaper than online stores so if you've never visited the place make sure you go in and say hi...
