When the owner greeted me with, “You want something?”, I knew it was going to be good. The fish and ingredients were fresh and the portions more than fair! After a hungry day of skiing, fresh Poke is a fantastic, healthy option to wind down the day. As a hungry dude, I wouldn’t get anything less than a large. Also I greatly appreciate getting all of the ingredients and a free water!
It’s clear they know how to prepare fish and I was pleasantly impressed! As they work out the opening kinks I think this place has good potential.
Some friendly recommendations of just one man’s opinion: -The presentation of the poke could use more finesse to place the ingredients around the edge neatly rather than pile it all on. An actual bowl is more appealing or perhaps familiar as a customer to eat poke vs a styrofoam container that reminds me of eating street food. If dining in, it’d be nice to have a proper bowl, chopsticks and spoon instead of the to-go container. I didn’t see spicy tuna written on the menu so customers might not be aware it’s an option. Or I’m blind idk I’ve seen many poke places often charge $1 for tobiko ;) In a ski town people might expect overly friendly service so I just hope no one gets scared away if they aren’t as familiar...
Read moreUsed the bathroom in here on a long drive, walked right to the back, there was no lock on the door, it was wide open and there was even a sign in the shop pointing to the bathrooms. As we walked away the shop owner scolded and berated us in front of customers that we needed to ask him permission to you the bathroom (there were no signs saying it was a private bathroom or that it was customers only and there was also no lock on the door. This is also a very popular rest stop and we have stopped here many times for bathroom breaks or snacks.) we had considered coming back for sushi but after being publicly scolded we will never visit this establishment again. Terrible customer service and you just generally shouldn’t talk to people like that, it was an honest mistake. So rude. We would have gone somewhere else if he had said it was a private restroom when he saw us walking back or if there...
Read moreWOW, we have been wanting to go here for quite sometime as we're 25+ year locals who are absolutely fatigued & disgusted by the RIDICULOUS pricing at restaurants in Truckee for, typically, mediocre food. We heard it was good, we were excited for something different beyond Mexican food, pizza & bar food & we were not disappointed. My son & I each got a poke bowl & we loved that we could choose a few proteins, our toppings, sauces & toppings & everything was VERY good (the regular size is a huge portion). My husband got a sushi burrito which is cleverly wrapped in seaweed versus a tortilla. His was excellent too. This place it counter service with a few plastic-y- tables so there's not much ambiance & no beer/wine but that's ok. It's terrific for a simple but delicious meal. We've told lots of other locals & will be back soon. We want to see this...
