Moved up to the Tahoe/Truckee a while back and was immediately sucked into the "Health food" vortex. After slowly getting a feel for the area and it's stores I realized that this store is weirdly staffed and even worse run. Don't get me wrong a few of the staff is very nice and polite, one being a nice girl in supplements who was obviously ontop of her job.( which is why I gave 2 stars not 1), but a few things stuck me as big red flags. Firstly the prices of some items are insane, and you're like okay whatever health food store prices until you're in Safeway one day and you litterally watch some of their employees come buy out an item and take it back to the store and up charge the hell out of it. Secondly is the level of sanitation in this place is minimal, I can see tubs of food items (looks like soups?) being kept on the floor back in the kitchen, which would never fly in a real restaurant. Also I was a bit disturbed at the way some employees treated this Lizard while I was in the store and they didn't seem to care(obviously about the wellbeing of the lizard) but also handling the lizard then food items directly afterwards. Just feels like the owner must have to much on their plate to set up successful...

My girlfriend and I stopped in on the way to Sacramento and we were so impressed. The staff was friendly, helpful, fast, and efficient. I didn't catch his name, but the man who helps in the herbal medicine section was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what he does. The selection of products was mainly focused around local and naturally sourced products including a large craft beer section, local and imported wines/cheeses, a craft juice bar, and my personal favorite, the deli/sandwich counter. I ordered a Reuben and a BLT - Reuben on the way out and BLT on the way home (I had to stop on the way back haha). Both were incredible! If you've never been, plan at least an hour to check out the whole store,...
Read moreI remember when it felt amazing to go here but the sparkles have worn off. They could do a lot better. I think this co-op feels stuck in the early 2000s. Their products are also not that different from the other grocery stores in town. They have limited hours and the staff are all very unique which causes a difference in experience. I honestly just want consistency and reassurance that it’s worth my time and effort. It’s been really hit or miss. I’ve been a regular customer since 2018. Id rather source and research on my own since the products they sell don’t seem to support sustainability in our area....
