Word After Word Books — Local services in Truckee

Great curated selection of books, both local and not. Most of the staff were friendly and eager to share book recommendations. Only downside was one of the staff (maybe the owner) asked us to put our (lidded) coffees that we had just bought down the street on a table up front because they’d had a lot of spills lately…

On the one hand, I get it, you don’t want to risk damage to your merchandise, on the other, it was not very welcoming. We were 2 responsible adults visiting on a weekday morning and both our drinks had lids. If I had spilt, I would have paid for whatever books I damaged, but I guess not everyone feels the same. We did end up buying a couple of books but probably would’ve spent more money in the store if we could have leisurely browsed with our coffees in hand.

I’ve visited a lot of local bookstores all over the country and this was a first and a put-off. Several that I’ve visited even have a coffee bar inside encouraging customers to linger and enjoy their drink because it’s better business. I hope spills decrease at this store and they lighten up on that policy for their own sake...

This bookstore has beautiful decor and quality notebooks, however the store wasn't for me because an estimated 70% of the authors were female authors of non-fiction or drama books. While I've read some excellent female authors, I prefer espionage and war thrillers; there were none of these in the shop. There were a few detective type thrillers or mystery thrillers and some science fiction that may have had action but zero espionage and zero war fiction. If you've got a modicum of testosterone, this isn't the shop for you. I really tried to to find a book because I wanted to support the local bookstore but after 45 minutes, was unable to find something; the closest I got was The Ranger by Peter Heller but in the end I decided not to purchase it. I will be back on the 26th to purchase one of their cool wooden covered notebooks and a T-shirt to help get...

We absolutely loved visiting this bookstore this morning! The staff were really welcoming and very sincere in offering recommendations and their opinions on books. The books seem to be well curated and I found many I had never come across before to add to my TBR, which is always exciting for someone who visits A LOT of bookstores. Record section on lower level was also excellent. Make sure to check this out for the great selection, warm atmosphere, and kind customer service!
