Came to the wrong side of the tracks for this restaurant. I was excited to try this spot out since it was featured on Triple D, but walked away from dinner disappointed. The food itself was good, and I especially liked the crab cakes (which I split with my sister). The dill fish and chips were crispy and the tartar sauce was especially tasty. I typically don’t eat meatloaf, but found the Kobe beef meatloaf to be good as well. Portions aren’t as big as you’d see at your typical diner and the plates are pricier, but I’d describe the vibe as a more “cool” diner. Indoor and outdoor dining is available. Bathrooms are available in the back of the restaurant (2 stalls for the women’s room). Credit cards are accepted. Parking is available in their front lot and free after 6pm. The servers were friendly but slow and inattentive.
What I now term “the milkshake saga” is what dampened the evening. There was a miscommunication between the waiter and the food runner, as my sister and I ordered one milkshake to split. However, when the food runner brought drinks out (which came after our food already arrived), he said he had two banana splits. After confirming that we had ordered the strawberry milkshake, he took one of the glasses, which was actually ours, as it turned out the milkshake was split between two glasses. When we brought the fact we only received half our order up to our waiter, he told us he’d take the milkshake off our bill, but the charge was still there after he swiped our card. At that point, we needed to leave and didn’t want to wait longer for them to come back and fix it.
Overall, I had hopes that the dining experience would be a pleasant one, but left feeling irked and...
Read moreWoof! Where to begin! My husband took me to Jax years and years ago when we first started dating and still lived in Truckee. Their Ruben changed my life, not to mention loads of other great dishes like their Lobster Mac. Today we went back to feel all the member-berries and were greatly disappointed with not only the food but the service. I’m normally incredibly understanding being in the service industry myself and have worked damn near every job outside of the kitchen, so I get it…most of the time. It’s when I blatantly see employees like the hostess not give a f@&$ and act put out by DOING THEIR JOB. A heavy sigh when my husband and I asked for a table in the very slow restaurant, didn’t ask if we wanted a high chair for my son and then when asked for one acted incredibly put out without even a word when dropping it off. When I say this high chair was disgusting I promise I’m not overreacting, CAKED with old food and whatever else. My husband watched the hostess sit at the bar and look at her phone while I spent the next 10 minutes wiping this thing down. With all the down time cleaning should not be an issue.
The Ruben was not at all how I remembered it and the amount of gristle made it a struggle to eat. Not to mention the sauerkraut which was once one of my favorite parts of the sandwich felt phoned in. A mix of veggies you would normally find in a Chinese restaurant not your Ruben. My husband had the dip which was also gristly and to top very dry and flavorless. I guess this is just a reflection of the town itself: pretentious, expensive, and...
