Our initial impression was it reminded us of a store we would frequent in Reno called Grocery Outlet. We truly did enjoy the change of atmosphere in your music choice as a fresh change to other stores, prices of products were exactly as expected and appreciated.
Once we got to check out, one of your security guards was having a conversation next to your check-out counter and mentioned how proud he was to have someone on your property be asked to leave, and responded with attitude, then spit on him. He then proceeded to brag how he ripped the person's backpack off them, kick them a few times, and he ran off property like a little girl to a prospective hands on security trying to recruit the the property. My wife/business partner and I found the conversation extremely distasteful, disrespectful to be heard in the public view of your customers. The cashier quietly asked us to "just ignore them," letting me know she was very uncomfortable with the entire situation and seemed fearful to say anything in response. I respectfully asked them to take their conversation behind closed doors, or away from the ears shot of the front end of your store. Then the two other security guards who didn't even work for you, or your company demanded I calm down, and that maybe I should leave before the called the cops. My wife spoke up letting them know to please call the cops, and she would explain to Tucson Police what happened and my request was rudely rejected by all the security guards. After at least 3 requests by me for them to please go somewhere else so your customers would not have to listen to thier vulgar, disrespectful, and extremely unprofessional conversation somewhere else, you security guard demanded I leave the store. I stated to him I would not leave until our transaction was complete, since I did nothing wrong.
Long story short, this exactly the discount store we where looking for, but the blaten disrespect and disregard for human decency did nothing but scare other customers and staff present. I certainly hope the owners fix this problem and work with the local population to not feel as though they will get beaten if the look like they may be in the improper class, or say something wrong to the right person there, so they can run off property like a...
Read moreMcGary's is a gem right in the middle of the city! A great discount market with name brand products to stock your pantry and home! Find everything from fresh produce and frozen meats and seafood to beauty and toiletries. There is a wide array of canned goods, high end coffees and a cereal for every liking. Stop by and take a peak inside.. you won't be disappointed.
Cosmetics are some of my favorite items to shop. They last well past their expiration date! Beauty serums and creams all should be good for over a year especially if stored the fridge. At McGary's prices you can afford to stock up. Just be kind and leave a few on the shelf for the next girl. =)
The store staff is incredibly welcoming and warm and are ready to help you with any questions or concerns. If you become a frequent shopper(as I am) you'll get to know the familiar faces.
Note* If you bring your own reusable bags you will have to store them in a locker but it it is a minor inconvenience. I typically ask for a box at checkout to lug my haul (a'la Sam's or Costco) and they glady oblige. This store is tops in it's category.
Update 4/7/25 I stopped by McGary's to stock up on goods. There were more fresh food items and great overall inventory however there is almost no selection of beauty products compared to the last review. This was one of the reasons I love this store. I also decided to price check items and some items were the same price or more than retail stores and big box. That was disappointing as well. Even items with boxes damaged came in at or over other non discount chains. For dry foods, condiments and can foods it's a good idea to still make your...
Read moreWith military communication I've found that workers would enjoy music playing during their shift. I suggest a store meeting or huddle when you get the chance to gain constructive criticism of how your workers feel, what could be improved as well as additional feedback from management. I am a customer who frequently shops here at McGary's. I love this store and am proud of the team for handling the new shipment of seasonal stock that didn't make it to Hawaii, I spoke to a gentleman replenishing and aid for POS about it and I noted it's a "Goldmine" for sales, he was enlightened to hear the positive feedback about the new inventory. Facing and recovery is good, pushing stock forward on the end caps will help sales. I like this store because it also is selling clothes like sweatpants I've seen. Thank you for your consistency in receiving high demand items like tea and coffee. I enjoy the discounted prices of %50 off on coffee 12 oz for $3.99. I also scored beef jerky at a reasonable price in comparison to local stores like Circle K and Kroger Fry's Food. Thank you McGary's team for making the difference in my day, and always being my go-to store for groceries with quick service. Please note that customers don't mind waiting in line, the last thing we want to see is a hot mess of an associate not enjoying their shift because it appears there is a lot to do. Customer service with an honest smile and striking up small talk should be welcomed at the check out lane. Do you need help with POS? I can see if I can work to help you as it always seems there's only one cashier with aid available. Posting a hiring now sign might resolve...
