Where do I start with this place? First of all, I am a disabled vet and when I first came in to sign up I asked about a vet discount and was told “I’ll take care of you”. Keeping that in mind here was my experience with genesis midtown.
First off, the staff was amazing over all. It’s the company that has operational problems.
I was quoted $53 a month with childcare and was constantly billed at $79 a month despite promises to rework my contract and fix the error.
Secondly, I get paid once a month and I’m On a fixed income. These guys constantly attempted to bill be days before I got paid. Multiple times I asked for my billing date to be readjusted to match my pay cycle. I was told it would happen when my contract was reworked to reflect the $53 price point I was initially quoted. That never happened.
So for whole time at this gym, I was always behind in my payments, but never delinquent. My very last interaction on this subject, I responded to an email On a Thursday telling them I would have my account paid before my next visit on Monday. The Sunday before I paid my account in full. Monday morning I went in to work out and was told that I needed to submit new checking account. I explained to the front desk clerk that I did not have a new checking account, I just needed my billing date tweaked. I was told that I would not be allowed access without submitting a new checking account. I again repeated myself and verbally articulated that we must be at an impass. I asked specifically if I was going to be able to work out and was told no. I clarified and we both acknowledged that my account was in good standing. Without an additional checking account I was being denied entry.
In the state of Oklahoma this is a breach of contract that they are liable for. They failed to execute the contract and willfully breached the agreement. But guess what? They’re still trying to charge me $80 a month.
I would not recommend signing up at this gym. There is no standard of operation or customers service with these people. Especially when you can get a membership at vasa fitness for $30 a month.👎👎👎👎
Editing to address their bullshit response. My account was behind and I PAID IT. The next day I attempted to come in and was denied access. After the fact? You don’t allow a member to use your facility after their account becomes current? What a word salad bullshit nothing response. That’s...
Read moreFor a gym that had a solid following when it was sky fitness, it’s sad to see the downfall of the gym. When we first joined it was clean and seemed like a wonderful gym for the location. And that it was a chain and maybe there would be standardized protocols. However, this location is always out of towels or has 1-2 left. Next, the sign up process seemed weird. We had to sign various agreements multiple times to change our memberships. The sign up process is so weird that I cannot use the online portal and sign up for classes / sign in with the scanner with my phone because something is wrong with the system and it’s “not fixable”. Lastly, and most importantly as I’m writing this and it is currently 80 degrees in the gym and it feels more like 95 degrees with no air flow. We were told the copper on the roof had been stolen? And that’s why the A/C was not working back in June and that it “would be hopefully be fixed soon” however, the entire summer after 11am you do not even want to step foot in the gym unless you’re taking classes (as the class rooms have separate units) as the upstairs portion with the workout equipment is 80 degrees with no fans. You’d think if something tragic like a robbery of the copper in the A/C units the staff and owners would get equipment to help in the interim, alas, the entire summer the gym was so nauseatingly hot. Upon investigation this seems to be a persistent issue every summer, so unless the copper gets stolen every summer I have a feeling the A/C equipment is not properly sized or the ductwork needs work done (not a licensed HVAC worker just a hot gym goer). I wish the owners would fix whatever the issue is asap rather than make up stories for the staff to relay to the members. At this point it’s the lack of transparency regarding the...
Read moreI work in the Fitness space and recently moved to Tulsa. I like checking out different gyms and studios and have a good base to compare from.
Why four stars and not 5 ? Because Tulsa has a log of gym options and Genesis promotes itself as a Luxury gyms. This might of been true when it first opened but is no longer so.
Is not that they lack amenities but the gym is starting to look a bit run down for a luxury gym and they try to do too many things and some of them are not well done.
Lots of equipment that is starting to show wear and Luxury gyms usually replace the equipment if they can't fix it up to a high standard.
More is not better a prime example of that is their Functional fitness room, it's disorganized, dirty lots of equipment there that just doesn't make sense or fit their market share Accessories, totes and stuff thrown all over the gym makes it look disorganize and is unnecessary.
Now the good: Genesis is quiet space, members are polite and everyone stays to themselves. They offer a packed class schedule and Personal training have a decent selection of Free weights, Machines and Cardio equipment.
Their market is for the Master bodybuilder, seniors, parents that need childcare that want to keep to themselves and just want to get their work in.
Well appointed Locker rooms with showers are well kept.
Shot out to the new guy at the front desk is polite, eager to learn and grow and is hard to find employees now in days.
My hat of to the guy who cleans in the morning, he's always hard work moving fast and running all over the gym getting the job done.
Everyone I interacted with was...
