On July 31st, my sister and I were at Scheels searching for a gaiter, and after being passed around to over five different sections with little effort or clarity from other employees, we were starting to lose hope. That’s when we met Dakota in the Football section — and everything changed.
From the start, Dakota was the most professional, kind, and genuinely helpful employee we’ve ever encountered at Scheels (or honestly, anywhere). While others had just guessed and redirected us with no real follow-through, Dakota took real initiative. He asked thoughtful questions, reached out to teammates on his floor, searched online for options, and even contacted the downstairs team to look further. It was the first time we felt like someone actually cared.
We were looking for a gaiter — something that seemed simple but turned out to be hard to track down in-store. Dakota explained that gaiters are usually carried seasonally, which gave us so much clarity that no one else had taken the time to offer. Even though they weren’t currently available, he didn’t stop there.
He gave us insight into when they typically restock, suggested online alternatives, and even checked other Scheels locations across the country that might carry them. That kind of effort is so rare and meant a lot to us.
Dakota was incredibly professional the entire time. On top of everything he did to help, he made us feel truly seen and understood — like our experience actually mattered. His caring attitude and calm, focused energy made the whole interaction feel respectful and easy, and it was clear he takes real pride in doing his job well.
Scheels is lucky to have someone like him on their team — he truly went above and beyond, and we can’t...
Read moreMy husband and I come to Scheels almost every Sunday for me to purchase protein power and him, fishing items. He’s had at least ten of his reels purchased from there, and they’ve put line on them. He’s purchased multiple things, every time.
Two experiences that are now why we will never return. First, he tried on a pair of Aftco shorts. He realized after they had a stain and he was told, after asking since they’re stained are they clearance? That he could wash them at home and if it didn’t work he could return them. They are still on the shelf with a horrible tide pen job.
Then yesterday he purchased a Humminbird that totaled out to 1600 after tax. He realized he got the wrong one, so went back and told the woman at returns he was going to go upstairs and exchange it out. She swiped the card and then he realized that money wouldn’t be back on immediately, and didn’t understand why she wouldn’t just offer the exchange. She said, ‘how am I supposed to know what’s in your bank account?’
He asked for a manager, who was equally rude and told him, ‘just swipe it again. You know you can do that. This isn’t a scheels thing it’s a credit card thing.’ Because of the 4-6 day card hold policy of his money being returned.
This isn’t how you talk to people. Not everyone who shops at scheels is rich and just has the extra money to keep running when your employees decide not to do their job. And this is how a manager...
Read moreI've visited Scheels in Tulsa three or four times now, and each visit is just as impressive as the last. Even walking in from the parking lot is an experience, with the striking statues setting the tone. It's hard to grasp the sheer scale of this place until you're inside. It's so vast, it's easy to get pleasantly lost exploring different sections.
The selection at Scheels is truly incredible. They cater to all budgets, offering everything from affordable options to high-end luxury items. It's almost impossible to describe the full range of products they carry – you really have to see it to believe it. If you're into anything outdoors, this is your ultimate destination.
Today's visit was a "look but don't buy" trip for me. I like to take my time and make sure I'm getting exactly what I need. Even without making a purchase, I was struck by the exceptional customer service. Every employee I encountered was friendly and helpful, offering assistance without being pushy. They all seem genuinely happy to be there, which speaks volumes about the company culture. The positive atmosphere definitely enhances the shopping experience.
Honestly, a short review can't fully capture the Scheels experience. It's something you need to experience for yourself. If you're an outdoor enthusiast, or even just someone who appreciates a great shopping experience, Scheels is a must-visit. Highly...
