Thursday before Christmas week an elderly friend and I shopped men's clothing then women's accessories. Very little sales person attention despite store having few in person customers. However, 5 min of closing we had three people approach us asking if we needed help. That attention an hour sooner would have been nice.
In men's I hunted down a sales man to assist my friend with choosing the best brand and style of Chinos for her son. She was looking for tan khakis and he insisted that the color khaki was brown.
Both are khakis and there is a military green khaki too. As a teen I worked in the Juniors department at Woodward & Lothrop (Woodies). We didn't get commission in Juniors but our individual sales had to be in the top 10% to be considered for a department that did .
Still our manager would have dressed us down for arguing with a customer and ruining a sale. Sales floor staff never contidicted a customer. We could call a manager if we couldn't solve thier problem. We never told them what they wanted done was wrong only out of our power.
Making matters worse my elderly friend was a woman's fashion manager for a upscale department store in Blacksburg. She was one of thier best Ladies Personal Shoppers and made hansom commissions. When she corrected the young man and said she had a lifetime of fashion experience, he spewed out a list fashion classes and possibly a degree in fashion.
Frankly I was so shocked I didn't take in the details. Just thought this young man would starve on commission. Thus ended our time in the men's department.

Read moreThank you to Michelle and Juliet in the ladies Lingerie/Intimates Department. I received extremely poor service from Macy's so I went to Dillards. Michelle was the first employee to assist me. When I told her what I was looking for, she said they did not carry that particular brand. She stated she had several customers come in and ask for that brand, but only Macy's sold it. I told her I had just received poor customer service from Macy's so that would not be an option for me. She apologized to me for their poor service. She immediately sprung into action to assist me and suggested other brands she thought might work for me. She made several trips back to the floor to ensure I had the properly fitting items I needed. After about while she apologized and told me she had to leave for an appointment, but her colleague, Juliet, would be assisting me if that was okay. Juliet also returned to the floor several times to ensure I received a proper fitting for the items I needed to purchase. These women were kind, patient, and thorough.
