Stop & Shop — Local services in Warwick

BLUF: Thank you for helping me choose (anywhere else) for my order ahead grocery shopping services.

I registered for a Stop & Shop account less than a month ago and made an order. It was not without issue, but it ultimately worked. I have attempted to make an order for the past two days to no avail. When I was finally able to get customer service on the line, I was informed that because my (cell phone) area code did not align with my address zip code, my account was flagged for fraud and locked out. Customer service could do nothing else at this point except insist that Stop & Shop sent out an email (singular) regarding this issue. They repeatedly referred to the email while defaulting to such customer service gems as "that's not my department" and "I don't know what to tell you" all the while speaking over me, and ultimately hanging up on me.

Two points to note:

1. As a 42 year old with 20 years worth of being moved around by the military, I have lived in 10 states, 2 countries, and 1 U.S. territory and have never once run into this issue, much less heard of it being an issue. Never. Once.
2. Like many others, I receive hundreds of emails per day with the vast majority being spam, and many of those being automatically flagged as spam/junk by my email provider. Perhaps there was an email generated, but I cannot verify that. What I can verify is that even though Stop & Shop was apparently concerned with fraud, no attempt was made to contact me telephonically or vial postal mail (and no repeat email was generated according to customer service).

I find it hard to believe that in 2023, a business with such an ostensibly overactive fraud prevention department doesn't seem to comprehend that since the passage of the federal Telecommunications Act of 1996 (which introduced phone number portability), people can move without changing phone numbers(!) and as a result, cell phone numbers OFTEN do not align with zip code for massive swaths of the population.

One of two local stop n shops for me. And it’s not this particular branches issue. I’d most likely give the same review at the other. Unless their staff handled it different then maybe not. However, I feel like I just walked into price rite for Pete’s sake. So RI outlawed plastic bags. Which Ofcourse is a good thing. But instead of partnering that transition. Stop n shop made their express checkout look as if you have no way at all to purchase your groceries. I walk into the self check out area with not a single bag in site. The girl in front of me had the same reaction. Like what in the world is going on in here. Luckily for us, we were met by a classy looking fella leaned up onto one of the registers because he cant stand with his own power, holding his phone in one hand, cause you gotta keep up with tic tok while you’re working, I mean come on now, Ofcourse, and he continued with, “there’s no more plastic bags in Rhode Island”. As monotone as anyone could be. So I say, “ok great, but how about any bag at all?” “He then points above the registers where there’s 5 paper bags laying on top. And continues to say but you have to pay for those. And then bam I instantly felt like I time warped into the lowest class grocer I could’ve put myself in. That’s funny Whole Foods has been using paper bags for years without charging for them but you guys can’t figure out the expense huh? So needless to say if that’s how your company is going to embrace environmental change then you’re on your own. That’s a clear, we didn’t want this to happen notion and we’re going to make you pay for it now. You’d think a major company would like to be a leader in these instances. This is the sort of thing that snow balls into bankruptcy. Not evolving with the times. Good luck there...

I used to Love Stop & Shop In The Cowesett Corners Mall on Quaker Lane But Not Anymore I Was There Today November 6th I’m handicapped and Need To use A Electric Scooter My Direct Support Person tried to get me A Electric Scooter But They Didn’t have any that was up and Running All 5 electric scooters were out of Commission The Employee Found one That Was Barely Working And when My Direct Support Person tried to get the employees attention he Drove The Scooter back into the Store He Told us A While ago That He Had Dementia Why Is Someone With Dementia Still working There it’s Not safe for him or The Customers He Needs To Be Fired I’m Sick And Tired Of The employees at Stop And Shop On Quaker Lane they Are so miserable and don’t Care About thire Customers whatsoever and I find them extremely rude and unhelpful How The Stop & Shop On Quaker Lane Is open is beyond me Believe me I will Definitely Continue To Shopping Down The Street at Market Basket They Know How To Treat Thire Customers with Respect and kindness Don’t Waste Your Time and Money here It’s...
