Tenuta's is a local institution without a doubt. Over 70 years looking after the community as a specialty local grocery store.
COVID has impacted a lot of businesses and they are no different. Understand that short staffing and department closures might be happening, but they're working hard to keep this store stocked for everyone.
Produce has been middling as long as I've gone here, but still better than most big-box stores. Where they shine is meat, deli, and liquor. Lots of options for sure, and actual skilled butchers over in meat!
Prices do skew higher, but they do a lot of sales to make it more budget-friendly. Speedway gas coupons on carts $50 and over help sweeten the deal as well.
Frank Tenuta and his daughters have a great love for this store and its customers, and continue to hire skilled employees that share that pride, as well as work hard to secure the greatest deals for customers that they can manage. Help them keep that up for the...
Read moreI like this place but there's no gluten free bread or buns or rolls or muffins. Not one. I wouldn't have to shop anywhere else, if they carried breads that I can eat. But they don't. So I end up going further to shop at their competitors, and don't visit Tenuta's as often as I would like too.
The selection of other things is good and the staff are kind at the tills and deli. The deli staff always seem to be in a good upbeat conversation ready mode. The staff at the tills seem to be less upbeat, under pressure and tense. Not sure if the manager here leads her staff through kindness or pressure and authority, but if I had to guess I'd say the deli staff get respect and the cashiers don't. A few "good mood inspirational pep talks" might help lift spirits at the tills. That'd make each visit a little more enjoyable.
Overall it's a great store. Would be better if they offered some gluten free baked goods, either...
Read morePrices are higher than larger stores like Meijer or Kroger. And selection just isn't there. So if you want say shredded cheese, you get one choice! Produce-nothing organic, don't expect a huge selection, then again it is a small store. Checkout-they have dedicated baggers and employ people with disabilities, which is fabulous! Employees are always friendly and helpful.
This store is super close to my house so I use it for only very quick trips of a few ingredients needed for dinner. I personally buy their Tenutas brand of spices, found near the produce, you get more for your money than anywhere else and I use a lot of spices! I have heard their meats are excellent, although the prices are too high for our large family. They carry the Miller farms amish chicken, which is a bit harder to find.
Tenutas also has some really great odd specialty finds too, you just...
