Our purchase today was using a "credit" for the protection plan we bought five years ago on a reclining couch set that fell apart a year after purchasing it. When we bought the set, I discussed with the sales associate our need for durable and reliable furniture that would reasonably withstand our kids. I was assured by the associate that the set she showed us was the best option given our situation. I expressed concerns about the material peeling because I did not want to have to deal with that. I knew there is no way to repair that kind of damage and it would look awful. Again, I was reassured by the associate that this would not happen because of the kind of material it was made of. Thinking we were making a good investment, we went ahead and purchased the Southern Motion Power Reclining Sofa brand SOU6 (per the receipt) couch and love seat. We paid about $2113 for the set and warranty. We bought the Gaurdsman protection plan as we are well aware that things can happen. We were initially quite pleased with our purchase. It did seem to hold up to our expectations for the first year. Our kids never damaged it. It was clear that the couches would not look as good for as long as we hoped, but were consistent with what we expected. Unfortunately, the headrests started to peel. We contacted the store, manufacturer and Guardsman all to no avail. We covered the couches, but they deteriorated too extensively and we had to buy a new set. Unfortunately, we bought it from the same company. Fast forward to present day. We waited the five years to redeem our "credit" for the worthless protection plan we were sold only to be told we would have to spend twice the "credit" worth to redeem it. After jumping through hoops and complaining that this was never explained when we purchased the plan, when we filed for rebate, or on any subsequent encounter, they agreed to allow the credit alone. Mind you, this "store policy" was not on any of the paperwork we received. Then they acted as though they were doing us a favor selling us yet more furniture we didn't need with money we already gave them. I would love to believe the initial sales associate was truly naive and thought she was selling us the best product and protection, but the more I deal with this company, the more I doubt this to be true. They clearly don't back the products they sell. These couches had known defects and have class action lawsuits against them in some states. I now wonder if the associate kept redirecting us to this product to pawn off bad merchandise. Current employees even admit that past employees did not divulge the full terms of the protection plan agreements. Lesson learned (slowly), we will never buy another product from this store. With a family of nine, we certainly will be in the market for a lot of furniture in the near future and hope we can find a more reputable place to do business. We never expected furniture to last forever or even a refund on the product, but we did expect reasonable customer service and...
Read moreI was shopping at mcgregor's Furniture store going out of business sale in Waterloo Iowa on sunday January 7th was the worst experience EVER! I had stopped at this store a month ago and was working with a real nice younger girl. She was so kind, gave me quotes. Prices on things and I told her I would think about it. I went back there yesterday. January 7th and another lady helped me and she was the rudest sales lady ever. After looking at several of the same items I looked at the previous month. She gave me a quote four hundred dollars over the prices that I was quoted a month prior. I mentioned this to her and she called me a liar. She said no one that works there would ever have given me a price like that. Trying to be cordial. I asked if she was having a bad day which she responded. No my day is going good. I asked her if she was rude to all the customers she helped. She did not say anything. Her tone of voice was very snotty. I was there with my daughter and two young grandchildren. My daughter could not believe how the sales lady was acting either. I did end up buying a sofa. I would have bought an a bed as well. But the sales lady was haggling over twenty five dollars. Needless to say, I ended up not getting the bed. Because it was a floor model and it had red stains all over the top of the white mattress. I would love to meet with the owner of that store and visit with them about this sales lady. She had blonde hair, don't know quite sure what her name was. She never made that very clear. And I believe she may have been of a different nationality. Maybe bosnian not sure. I definitely will tell everyone that I know about my experience at the store with that lady. Please post to that. So other people know and don't have to go through the degrading verbal abuse that I had to go through. While visiting mcgregor's furniture in...
Read moreIt saddens me to have to write this review. I waited to post this until I spoke with the corporate office. I purchased furniture at McGregors 2 months ago. I bought a couch, oversized chair, and ottoman from the clearance section. It was supposed to be available for pick up 3 weeks later. Then I received a call telling me that my furniture was stuck on the port on the West Coast, in the port strike. Arrival date was unkown. I waited patiently for almost 2 months for my furniture to arrive. I hired a company to pick it up from the store. Immediately the mover and I noticed the chair was damaged. The chair was not in plastic, the couch was covered in plastic. There was a tear on the front (with stuffing coming out), a tear in the back, and a white scuff mark along the back. The MANAGER of the store told me that at that price point, this is what you should expect. If you can find better quality furniture somewhere else at this price point, go buy it. Among a LOT of other frustrating things. When I asked if I could get a refund immediately, she laughed and said I would have to wait 7-10 days for the corporate office to mail me a check. I called the corporate office today. They are mailing me a check tomorrow. However, they did not want to hear about how rude and degrading their manager was, even when I told her I had a witness (the mover) I was told I must have taken all of the comments out of context. She also said that she does not care about online reviews. This is the WORST customer service I have ever experienced in my life. I have already picked out furniture at another store...at the SAME price point! Unfortunately, after waiting 2 months for the furniture, I have to wait even longer to get...
