On Aug. 7th, 2021, we went to Mike’s Fish Mkt. to purchase “Fresh” haddock to cook at home. The display case showed the haddock in a container with a lot of excess water within this container with the haddock. I asked if the fish had been frozen??? It was stated by the employee with dark, slicked back hair with glasses, middle aged, “No, it wasn’t frozen.” We purchased some haddock and gave him the benefit of the doubt. We cooked the haddock that night, Aug. 7th by baking it in the oven for 20-25 mins. We noticed while eating the fish, it was “mushy” and had no flavor. When we have purchased “FRESH Haddock at other fish markets, the fish was firm, not mushy and it had flavor. This haddock had been previously frozen and was NOT fresh. Within approx. 3 hours, we began experiencing abdominal cramping and nausea. After awhile that night, we eliminated this unknown germ in our bowel movement in which was diarrhea. We did not feel well the rest of the night. The next day, I called Mike’s Fish Market and had advised them that we had become ill shortly after ingesting this haddock. I told him about 3 hours after ingesting the fish. I believe it was the same guy that told us the haddock was fresh on Aug. 7th. that I had eliminated the haddock, literally. This guy stated that you do not get food poisoning symptoms that quickly, it takes 12 hours, it must have been something you ate a few days ago. I responded by stating that the fish was the only thing that we ate last night that was different. The other food we ate is something we always eat with no problems. He stated, “Thanks for telling me.” I stated that I would be seeing the doctor about this. After getting off the phone with Mike’s Fish Market, I researched online, Food Poisoning” symptoms, etc. Mayo Clinic, a creditable site stated the symptoms exactly that we experienced and also stated the the symptoms can be experienced within 30 MINS to 8 HOURS. This employee of Mike’s Fish Market needs to do his research, as it does not take 12 hours for food poisoning symptoms to occur. Rather than dispute that the haddock made us ill, a refund should have been offered and a simple sorry this happened. This is not good business practices and we will not be returning to this fish market or would we ever think about going to the restaurant next door to the fish market after getting ill from your...

Read moreThe most reasonable price for fresh live lobsters we've found from north to south in Maine. It's not a restaurant but they will boil the lobsters for you and you can eat at their outdoor picnic tables. There's also a very clean bathroom inside for customers. Remember to bring a nutcracker if you have one. They didn't crack the lobsters enough, so we had a hard time working our way through. ...
