Walking into Hawkins Clocks, you truly are entering a world of Clocks. The owners, Earl and Gloria, who I had the fortune of meeting in my first visit into their world of Clocks, are not only extremely knowledgeable in the language of Clocks, but also kind, friendly, and exhibit old fashion authentic goodwill and honesty. I have learned after several visits into their world of clocks that there is little that they do not know when it comes to a clocks origin, manufacturing date, value, availability and most importantly, the ability to repair and service I imagine just about any clock that has ever been made. Personally, I have found that repairs are done at a respectable price. I am grateful to have been introduced to this amazing Clock Store many years ago when a Grandfather Clock I purchased at the old Boston Store needed repair and was first given their telephone number and since then, that particular Grandfather Clock I sold when I entered the Peace Corps, but since then I have purchased directly from Hawkins Clocks, a new Grandfather Clock of which I have always found value due to its and any grandfather clocks, historical comforting chimes and the charm I feel it adds to my home. Over the years I have been blessed to be able to purchase some other clocks from Hawkins, each unique and wonderful in their own way and great conversation initiates. I historically have not been all that great in being responsible in terms of having them serviced as regularly as I should yet, when I do have the opportunity to bring them in, it always seems like I am picking up a new clock when servicing them and repair if needed, has been completed. There are few people in Milwaukee I have met over the years that if the topic of clocks surfaces, don't mention positive experiences they're had in dealing with the owners and staff of Hawkins Clocks. One of the many personal reasons, other than what I have already mentioned, that I hold Hawkins Clocks in such high regard, is they continue to prevail while staying family owned and managed. I imagine certainly not all but some of their offerings may be found a bit less at a dot com, but I think many underestimate the value in paying those few extra dollars to have it backed up locally and more importantly than that, assuring that availability will remain accessible...
Read moreIf there was less than one star I would use it. When I called the store to set up an appt. for cleaning my grandfather clock they were very rude and balled me out for not having it ever cleaned saying I should have been told when I purchased the clock only to find out later from my husband that is where we did purchase the clock and never remember being told to have it cleaned every 2-3 yrs. Also told me since it’s age I would need a complete overhaul or rebuild and it would cost about $1400. I took my business elsewhere to Accurate Clock Repair to be treated with a friendly person with over 30 yrs of clock experience who came to the home, inspected and cleaned my clock. It did not need a complete overhaul and is working fine and it cost me $165 not $1400. Also indicated I should do follow up cleanings every 3-4 yrs and I will continue my business with them since he was honest, pleasant and not out to soak money for an...
Read moreI live in the house that belonged to my grandparents. I spent almost 18 years looking for the exact clock that my grandmother had in her kitchen. After FINALLY finding one, I was afraid to plug in the nearly 70 year old plug into the outlet. I brought the clock into Hawkins and they were able to convert it to a battery operated movement. I was a bit sad that they weren't able to keep the original hands intact, but the woman picked out a wonderful set of hands, including a red second hand, just like the original. Even though the hour and minute hands are different than the originals, they look like they belong there. Everyone I dealt with was extremely polite and helpful and I couldn't be happier with my experience at Hawkins. I'm positive that my grandmother would be tickled pink with her old and my "new" clock. Thank you so much to everyone...
