Disrespectful, Unprofessional, and Morally Inexcusable

I've never shopped at Gypsy Life Surf Shop, and after our experience, I never will. This review isn't about their surf gear -- it's about their complete disregard for basic decency during our wedding reception.

We held our reception in an event space next to their store on 5/25/25. Multiple emails were sent well in advance by our coordinator that for just a short window -- two hours -- they would route customers through their alternate entrance. I never spoke to them only our coordinator thru Grandview City Food Hall. Then, on the actual day of our wedding, Gypsy Life staff decided they would not honor that plan, citing "theft prevention" as their excuse.

So what did they do instead? They posted a public sign outside of what was encouraging foot traffic through our private event. Guests, shoppers, and strangers were directed to walk straight through our reception -- past our speeches, photos, and unguarded table of gifts and cards containing cash.

They chose their own convenience over basic decency and respect. It was inconsiderate, dismissive, and absolutely unprofessional. And make no mistake -- this wasn't a miscommunication. It was a decision they made knowingly, despite multiple prior communications and no hint they would not allow it.

If a business's true character shows in how they treat others -- especially during someone's once-in-a-lifetime event -- Gypsy Life Surf Shop showed theirs loud and clear.

I would never support this store. Not because of the products -- but because of their lack...

Not sure why (location, name, whatever), but I had always put this shop in the “surf/beach lifestyle” category vs. a proper surf shop. Not a thing wrong with the former, just not a place I would go to look for boards, fins, etc…or at least I thought. Finally was able to spend some time in the shop and I was wrong. The board selection (skim and surf), while maybe not the largest around, is really solid and the crew knew what they were taking about. Packs a punch for its size and has a good vibe. Really glad I challenged my (poor) assumption. Lunch at grandview and a cruise though the store is a good...

If you're a beach enthusiast, you have to stop at Gypsy Life Surf Shop!! They have an impressive selection of surfboards, bikinis, clothing, and all the beach gear you could possibly need. The ambiance of the store is beautiful but what truly stood out was the amazing customer service. The staff went above and beyond, not only pointing me in the right direction for the best waves but also helping me load my rental surfboard onto my car.
