Modern Day Music — Local services in West St. Paul

I bought a guitar here last week. Not my first guitar or first bought at this store. I purchased the guitar, a chord and a stand. The service was good and I had no complaints... but, after my transaction, the person working behind the counter at the register came to find me at my car in the parking lot and asked that I come back in and leave my name and phone number. I went back in, but was confused as to why he came and got me in the parking lot and why they would need my name and phone number? He said it was "in case I had a return". I mentioned earlier, it was not the first guitar bought here. I've never been asked to leave a name and phone number incase of return. It was odd and the employee asking me for the information didn't seem confident in his answer when I asked about why he was requesting it. Left feeling unsettled about, what could have been a very nice and normal exchange. This was strange, and made me suspicious...

TL;DR Store is cool, nice selection, good staff, locally-owned. I've heard good things about the lessons they offer. Don't trust their tech with anything other than basic setup.

Took in my electric guitar, bass, and acoustic guitar for repair work.

Basic electric guitar setup was good.

My J-bass had bad pots that needed to be replaced. Took it in twice and both times they said it was all good, but I don't think they even plugged it in and played it when they were done. The pots still didn't work properly when I got the bass back.

I also had an acoustic bridge re-glued. Left huge burn marks on the body and the bridge was lifting again within a few weeks. I might have to replace the guitar at this point. It wasn't a high-end instrument or anything, but it was my first guitar and I've been playing it regularly for...

The store is a mess. Disorganized, dirty, junky looking. We had an electric guitar and a violin on consignment there; went to see what was going on with them and they were both in the back storage room. I was told the guitar was no longer working, but no one called us to see if we wanted them to repair it or come get it. They just threw them in the back room and that was that. No good faith effort to sell the instruments or communicate status or condition. Excuses about the condition of the instruments. I would not recommend this place to anyone to buy, sell or consign an instrument.
