Stryker Sports Complex — Local services in Wichita

Our game was moved to the indoor arena last night. It wasn't too hot outside like it had been for weeks so not sure why it got moved. Inside the arena was most steamy when we got there with no air circulation. 30 minutes into the game we were sweating on the bleachers and could only imagine how hot it must be for the boys on the field. I went into the air conditioned concession area and asked to speak to a manager. I explained the situation and was told it cost a lot of money to turn on the air, it had been very busy that evening and kids were thankful when they got a chance to play in this arena. A lot of money is paid to be on teams that play at Stryker and to Stryker and yet they can't turn on some air for these same players?? There were games in the arena from 6:00-9:30 last night but no AC until after I said something at 6:30. I'm sure the later game people didn't have to be dripping sweat in the bleachers since it would have cooled down...

I sat by a team from Oklahoma and they were talking about how great this complex is. I told them they haven't been to Kansas City then! The fields are turf, but that's about as good as it gets. The fence/netting system is terrible and the parking is worse. There are some established trees and young ones in the making, but they are in the wrong spot to make shade for the parents. The stadium is nice what dang does it get hot. Can't expect much better though unless they spend some real money. Which we thought they would do when Scheel's put their name on it. I think we'll be coming here for some years still, so I hope they keep improving.

UPDATE: They had a local company install a short fence to help with balls going everywhere. Still not near as good as other facilities we've been to, but it's a step in the right direction. Now...

I don’t expect every referee to catch every call, but it’s different when they see things that should be called. This past weekend we dealt with the worst ref and it wasn’t the first time. Made multiple calls in favor of the other team, that’s fine but when it puts the other team’s players in jeopardy of getting hurt that’s when it becomes a problem. Then for the referee to just laugh at the parents when he is called out on his multiple bad calls should not be allowed. These referees need to be better regulated and take more training because we as parents shouldn’t have to worry about our kids getting hurt because they are being biased towards another team who is trying to hurt players not...
