The anchor store of Five Points Plaza is the Publix supermarket. Unfortunately, there isn't much that's "super" about this market. It's very, very small, especially compared to other Publix in Ft. Lauderdale. They have done admirably in making the most use out of such limited space, but I would discourage anyone with claustrophobia to shop there. Really, there's hardly room to maneuver your shopping cart, and heaven help you if you need to use an electric cart (as I do), as maneuvering is very difficult, unless you don't mind running people over. Their size (or lack of size) also means they cannot carry the breadth or depth of products one becomes accustomed to when used to shopping at bigger Publix stores. If it happens to be your local store, it still beats the competition (which actually they don't have much of). But if you can shop at just about any other Publix location, you'll find it a much more pleasant experience all around, from atmosphere to range of products. As for the other shops/stores in this plaza, I know there is an Estrella Insurance office, and a truck/van rental place (U-haul?). Beyond that, I'm not sure. It is also right at 5 Points, so it does have easy access to Wilton Drive, with all the neat stores, shops, restaurants, as well as bars and clubs, it...
Read moreThis supermarket services Wilton Manors. It's an older location that has been regularly, nicely updated, remodeled and modernized through the years. It's every bit as nice as ANY of the other newer locations. With that being said, it's absolutely TINY in comparison to every other location which are constructed as Super Stores. Despite the constraint of size, they always have everything the bigger stores do. I guess they just restock more frequently. Somehow they keep up and with seemingly relative ease. I intentionally bypass the larger locations that are closer to me, just to shop here instead. They're always busy and the staff is just outright friendly too. Maybe that's a testament to the intimacy of the store. I think it's because most of the people who shop there are regulars and they just get to know you, recognize you more readily than in bigger locations. It's also in a walkable neighborhood. Unlike other, larger locations, I regularly see people, who live nearby, walking home with a bag of groceries. In addition, I also think it's just easier to find things without having to traverse acres of store to get to the things you need. Bigger is NOT always better. I either shop here or at Aldi's which is even smaller. I hope they keep this...
Read morePublix Supermarket is the anchor store amongst the shops located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Five Points Plaza leading into the Wilton Manors business district.
Smaller than many of Publix's larger megastores, normal size grocery carts are used (as opposed to oversized carts elsewhere) to maneuver through the narrow aisles at this particular Publix. It's a busy area and I rated this 4- rather than 5-stars because the parking lot can be problematic. Primarily, this is due to brisk business and somewhat limited spaces. Patience goes a long way here, so be forewarned.
Otherwise, the Publix staff is usually friendly and helpful answering any questions one may have, and the personal touch of escorting you to the aisle and item one is seeking is why "shopping is a pleasure" at this longstanding FL...
