Just Be — Local services in Winston-Salem

Yesterday, Sunday 10/30 at around 4:30 pm, me and two of my friends went to this shop to look around, after strolling around the area.. I’ve wanted to go to this shop for several weeks now, but hadn’t gotten the chance to until yesterday. I will say, they have very cute things in their shop, but the lack of acknowledgment while we were there was upsetting and left a sour taste in each of our mouths. The three of us walked in and went in different directions to look around, there was an employee near the register that walked right by me, and not once said hello, or asked if I needed help finding anything, same went for the other employee that was in the store... I noticed this right away, but didn’t think much of it, until I saw others walk in and be greeted so warmly and excitedly.. I hate to put race into it, but I am a person of color, and the customers that were greeted were ALL white.. My friends and I proceeded to leave, and I asked each of them, “were you greeted by anyone in that store?” and they both shared the same experience as me, not greeted and couldn’t help but notice how others that were white were greeted so quickly and warmly.. we are all persons of color and were saddened by this experience, and all agreed that there were many things we wanted to buy, but the feeling of being of unwelcome was unsettling and caused us to leave without...

very cute merchandise and products, very nice store ambience! however the workers weren't the most welcoming and i also witnessed a rather discriminatory encounter between one of the older employees and a young latina woman due to a language barrier. as a business that carries work by latin and other POC artists, it seems unacceptable that there would be any kind of discrimination or disrespect to customers solely based on a language barrier. do better, just be. for selling appropriated product, the least you can do is respect clientele regardless of cultural or...
