My wife and I went into Ashley Furniture, in Woodbury, on 11/26, to look for a shelf to separate the space between our living room and kitchen. We knew what we were looking for, but were continually harassed by the assistant manager, Darrell Quintana. He kept making irrelevant suggestions, never once asked us anything about the type of shelf we were looking for, or the purpose we had in mind for it. Every five minutes or less, he was breathing down our necks and following us around - trying to make a sale. It got to the point where we became so stressed we left and came back later.... unfortunately he was still there.
We purchased the shelf we wanted, and came back to pick it up on Monday 12/5.
When I walked into the store to pick it up, I was treated like I was bothering the sales staff, one of them quickly yelled for Darrell, and he snatched the receipt I brought with me out of my hand, turned away, and barked orders at me to drive around back to the loading dock, and he'd be back there shortly. Not even looking at me, and no directions - I felt very disrespected and confused.
Once around the back of the building, it was dark and very unclear where to go, until a door opened, and someone on the dock yelled at me to drive my jeep up to the door.
Upon examination of the box, I noticed two things very quickly...1. the box was damaged. It had been ripped open, and clearly looked like it had been dropped. Extra tape was added to try to hide that the box was opened...but it was clear. 2. The box was NOT the size we were told it would be, and it was very difficult to fit in my vehicle.
I asked if there was another unit we could take, because the box was damaged, and I was told no. I asked for Darrell, because I had just seen him, but was told that he couldn't come back. This was after Darrell took my receipt and told me he'd be back there in a minute to give me the remaining paperwork. Never saw him again. The guy on the loading dock told I needed to take the box and get out of the way. I have back issues, and was very frustrated that I was forced to pick the box up myself.
Tonight, I opened the damaged box, and began putting the shelf together. There is a very visible dent in the metal structure of the shelf, and one of the main wood shelf pieces is cracked and coming apart at the seams, where it was very poorly glued together. Pretty much what I feared would be the case when I saw the box.
Overall, I felt disrespected, and the staff made me and my wife feel unwelcome in their store. On top of the already poor experience I had, now my furniture is damaged, looks bad, and reading other reviews of this awful company, I do not doubt nothing will be done to remedy the situation. I'll be calling the store tomorrow morning, and I'm pretty sure I'll get the run around, and poor service I was given the first time. The shelf is now half built, and I don't have the energy or patience to deal with these awful disrespectful people anymore.
Do yourself a favor...don't walk into this store. From my experience, they don't want you in there anyways. There are so many better places to go, and I wish we had spent the extra $100 across the Street for a...
Read moreWe purchased the Hogan Mocha couch and oversized chair, both are recliners. Within the yr we had the recliner no longer work and called service and they said they could mail me the part but we would have to put the part on ourselves or we had to pay, this was supposed to be covered under the 1 yr warranty that comes with the furniture. Got that fixed and not long later of course after the 1 yr mark our furniture starting falling apart, each piece was leaning to one side, the structure was coming apart. We of course had to pay to have it repaired ourselves $20 trip charges and $40 hr prorated service fees. SURPRISE it could not be fixed at our house as it was too in depth so we had the choice of paying them to pick it up and take it to be fixed or we bring it in ourselves. SO we brought it in ourselves because we already had to pay for a trip chrge and prorated fee for that call now we would have to pay$40 hr to bring it in ourselves and have them fix the structure. We did that. Now we are sitting here at the 3 yr mark and the furniture has broken again, wood is falling out of the couch(same one already fixed) and the oversized chair rocks side to side and is unstable and cannot be used, the structure is coming apart and it does not RECLINE any longer either as that is broke again, oh and the back cloth came undone as there is so much tension from the structure giving way that is is pulling the material apart.. We had to put the one couch against the wall because it is falling apart and of course no longer works. We have one spot on one side of the couch you can sit on but you cannot recline as that is broke on that side. SO we are a family of 5 and only one person can sit on the furniture. Called and was told I am responsible to pay to have it fixed AGAIN. How long can you keep rebuilding a couch, pretty soon the cost of them fixing it will pass the cost of what I pd for the furniture. Oh and you cannot get a hold of anyone at the top as I keep getting forwarded on. Owner is no where to be found but the nice gentleman on the phone said he would look into things and see what he can find out and call me back. I am embarrassed for anyone to be in my house because the furniture looks terrible and I certainly cannot tell them to take a seat. Very frustrated as I bought here as I was told it was higher end, come to find out it is basically made of what looks like plywood. One repairman told us he would never get that type of furniture as it is not made solidly and it is an issue. Yet according to Ashley Furniture they have had no issues, they may not have but I googled and found some reviews with the same issues with this brand(not necessarily all bought at Ashley) and pretty much the same time frame as to when they broke. I just want furniture I can sit on. Oh and when I spoke o a lady in customer service this morning she told me that if they came out and said they could not fix it they would replace it. So I called to set up to have it fixed and the gentleman told me that he has no idea why she would say that as my warranty is up and they would not replace it. Glad to see they are all on the same page and way to...
Read moreDo not purchase anything here unless you are okay waiting for it to be delivered weeks (months) after your scheduled delivery date. I have never written a bad review for any store, I try to always note my positive experience, because I have worked retail for many, many years and I know how hard it can be as an employee hearing the bad reviews. Iâm writing this to warn any future customers thinking about purchasing from this store. The in-store experience was okay, there was a football game on one of the TVs where all 15 sales associates were watching so it was nice looking through the store without any pushy associates following me around. I purchased a sectional couch in full on 9/16 from this store and was told that it would be delivered in 3 weeks time. I was told that the scheduled deliverers call 3 days before my delivery date so that I can plan my day around their delivery. We gave away our old couch 4 days before our delivery date, thinking we were getting a new one in a few days....little did we know. Fast forward to my delivery date, no call. I called the store and they let me know it would be another week. I gave them the benefit of the doubt...but still no call a week later. We started reading the reviews about the horrible delivery experience many customers had had from Ashley, and we realized not having our couch yet was the least of our worries. A little over a month after that of back and forth calls to this store, my boyfriend and I finally gave up and asked for a refund for our sectional. Honestly, we were so sick and tired of sitting on the floor when watching tv. We had received too many empty promises from the sales associate who sold us the couch and the managers we had talked to trying to find out where our couch was during this time. We kept hearing âjust one more week, one more week and it will be here.â My boyfriend told the manager who was refunding our money that he would be embarrassed to work here because of this and she said she was. How sad!! It was such a bummer because we had already waited so long for our couch..this was our first âbigâ and âproudâ purchase as new homeowners and it definitely gave us a bad taste. I honestly felt like my sales associate knew all along that we would have this hard of a time actually getting it in the end but he only cared about his commission for that day.... We decided to try out Slumberland furniture a few days after we got refunded from Ashley even though we were hesitant, just going through this experience. We found the same couch there for $350 less. Less than two weeks later, itâs in our house. Iâm not saying go to Slumberland...Iâm saying just donât go here to buy anything. Save...
