I’ve been to Hobby Lobby twice now, and both times were disappointing.
The first time, I went early in the morning because I don’t like being around large crowds—especially in this day and age. I only had a few minutes before work, but from walking around, I thought it seemed like a good store for me since I’m an artist.
The second time, I looked at their website first to see if they had what I needed. I paint with oils, acrylics, and I also do woodburning, so I was specifically looking for basswood. Their website really needs updating—it showed the item online but didn’t provide a quantity or clear stock info. It also looked like it was only available online, which was frustrating because I prefer to try an item before buying in bulk.
When I called, they told me they had basswood in stock. But here’s the problem: a lot of what they’re selling and labeling as basswood isn’t actually basswood. That’s misleading. They did have real basswood, but not everything online matches what they actually carry.
So, I went in and asked six different employees for help. Honestly, most of them had no clue. Talking to them was like staring at deer in the headlights. One employee kind of pointed me in the right direction, another told me they didn’t speak good English, and another said he was new. Finally, the sixth employee was friendly and did her best to help, but it was a frustrating process.
Overall, the customer service is terrible. If you can figure things out on your own, maybe you’ll do fine, but the staff I dealt with seemed unhelpful and uninterested. I like to support local stores, but with misleading product labeling and poor customer service, I’ll probably just shop online...

Read moreThe deals are great and the store is very clean. I gave it one-star because the way they have the check out lines is inefficient. The people are standing way into lanes because they don’t want two lines with two cashiers per lane on each side. Coming from a city I’m astounded by the inefficiency and the amount of patience you need. I strongly ask and encourage management to reconsider the way the lines are formed as it makes the entire shopping experience soured when having to wait extended period of time in line especially with holiday season started. Additional winter visitors do not make this experience friendly. I only shop here for holidays...
